🎇 A record-breaking number of local authorities applied to the last European City Facility - EUCF call, including many Covenant signatories. This highlights both the strong commitment of cities to advancing climate neutrality goals and the growing demand for support in funding and financing their transition. 💶 The EUCF grant does not fund direct implementation but supports accessing services and creating robust investment concepts for climate and energy actions. 🤝 The Covenant of Mayors - Europe partners with multiple EU initiatives like EUCF to connect cities and towns with the support they need to bring their commitments to life. Find out more 👇
⚡ More cities than ever are seeking EUCF Support 💚 With 297 applications, the 7th call of the European City Facility (EUCF) saw a record number of local authorities seeking funding for #EnergyEfficiency and #CleanEnergy investment plans. A big thank you to our national support network and all the dedicated #SustainableCities for their commitment to advancing climate action! - and to the LIFE Programme and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency for making EUCF possible. Elina Sergejeva, EUCF's Coordinator, emphasises how the overwhelming interest “underscores the strong demand from local governments for support and their commitment to advancing Europe’s climate neutrality goals.” This call had applications from 27 European countries across the three EUCF regions, with most being from Central and Eastern Europe. Canada has an ongoing corporate climate governance problem: the common practice of appointing fossil fuel CEOs to become corporate directors creates a very real barrier for institutions in making the difficult decisions required to align with international climate obligations. These dangerous entanglements create the potential for conflicts of interest, lead to inappropriate corporate lobbying, and hold back companies from modernizing in line with the accelerating energy transition.

The failure to recognize the flaws in the EU’s green transition policies is leading to the deindustrialization of Europe. That in turn presents an acute economic and national security threat for Europe.

It’s a shame that #Shell won’t show transparency on its actions of making real terms cuts to pensioners income by refusing to allow discretionary increases when RPI is higher than the scheme minimum payment. After trying to deny that this was an action consistently followed in the past, #Shell finally acknowledged it as fact in response to questions at the AGM. But in doing so, tried to brush the facts aside because this was thirty years ago. Well thirty years ago or not, #Shell paid these increases in six seperate years during that period each time RPI exceeded the scheme minimum. The reason it hasn’t happened since is because RPI has been lower than the scheme minimum since then. So there is clear precedent, yet #Shell under #WaelSawan refused to show transaoatency on why they have refused these increases in the last three years, when they removed them or when they advised #Shell pensioners. So while being very opaque rather than transoatent, the company instead allows our surplus to be spent accelerating a low reliance plan which benefits #Shell rather than the pensioners the fund was established for. https://lnkd.in/egqBUYKX
Shell has published its Climate and Energy Transition Lobbying Report 2023, detailing our advocacy related to climate and the energy transition and providing an update about some of our key industry associations. This another step in our journey to increase transparency around our lobbying activities. More: https://lnkd.in/ekHXkGDr #PoweringProgress
