A new article about the Lapland demo region is out!🚨 The Effects of Climate Change Are Most Severe in the Arctic Region The Arctic region is warming up to four times faster than the rest of the world, bringing with it numerous challenges for both the environment and livelihoods. According to forecasts, the climate in Lapland, Finland could be 4–5 degrees warmer by 2080 than it is now, which will be evident in shorter winters, fewer days of frost, and reduced snow cover in early and late winter. In a fascinating experiment, a forest of old oak trees was exposed to above-normal levels of carbon dioxide for seven years. The results were incredible! The trees not only expanded their trunk area, but they also managed to trap more carbon dioxide. The study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, is a promising step forward in understanding the vital role of old-growth forests in the fight against climate change.
