🔍 The Fair Internship Initiative 2024 report has just been released, drawing on data from over 600 interns across the UN system. The findings emphasize the importance of high-quality, paid internships in creating more equitable and inclusive pathways from education to employment. This year's report shows that while positive changes are underway, more progress has yet to be made. Paid internships performed better across all benchmarks, showing that fair compensation not only opens doors but also enhances the overall workplace and increases organizational efficiencies. Here at the UN Youth Office, we are committed to turning these insights into action by championing policies that prioritize fair, inclusive, and accessible internships in the UN System and beyond. We must nurture young talents, support their growth, and embrace our shared values of diversity and inclusion when it comes to the meaningful employment of youth 🌐 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e3ijZT79 #YouthLead #paidinternships #futureofwork

Hey there! Here's a little task I did for the HNGi12 program >>>>> Market Insight Report- Website Traffic analysis Review of dataset https://lnkd.in/dihbwf9P Introduction: This dataset provides insights of the user interactions with a website including the variables; 1. Page views (Numerical data type) 2. Session duration (Numerical data type) 3. Bounce rate (Numerical data type) 4. Traffic source (Categorical data type) 5. Time on page (Numerical data type) 6. Previous visits (Numerical data type) 7. Conversion rate (Numerical data type) The purpose of this review is to study the datasets and what insights can be revealed at first glance. Observation: My initial observations of the data set: a) The key insight of this data set is the Traffic source variable with 4 values; paid, organic, referral or social. b) The units for each metric is not specified. c) A total of 2000 visits. This can be observed by scrolling to the end of the data set or simply using formula =COUNTA(A:A). d) Number of page views range from 0-14. e) Session duration range from 0-20.29. f) Time on page range from 0-24.79. g) Previous visits range from 0-9. h) Conversion rate ranges from 0-1. i) There are no obvious trends, patterns or anomalies in the data set. With these insights gathered, I conclude that with further analysis, a few things we can determine from this data set are: a) What Traffic source provides better page views, session duration, previous visits and conversion rate. b) The level of engagement on the page through session duration and Time on page variables. c) The average value of each variable. Did some self reflection last week and thought I'd share my findings. Last month was the most self-reinforcing in my job search journey over the past year. I was interviewing for a job position and this felt super special due to apparent reasons. So, I put my best foot forward and hoped to advance to the next round each time I had a call. And I did, I reached the very summit of this process. But, the final verdict favored someone else. I knew that my odds of getting the gig was about 30% but I was only human to dream. So what was I supposed to take away from this experience? I sat down and jotted down some of the positives and negatives that I identified. Positives: + I reached the FINAL STAGE of an interview. + The interviewers personally recognized me for my potential and wished me well. + I can have organic conversations with industry experts. + I can deliver relevant answers to critical questions during times of duress. + My coding skills are technically sound and relevant to current trends. + I can identify actionable business insights from raw data + I am a continuous learner. + I am 2 certifications stronger. And the list went on... Negatives: - I did not get the job. Now, am I supposed to let the ONE negative outweigh the numerous positives that emerged from this analysis? No way José! So here's what I am going to do: + I am going to feel grateful to the interviewers who gave me this wonderful opportunity to prove my mettle + I am going to feel thankful to this organization for boosting my self confidence + I am going to channel in all the positives and tell myself that I can get to the finish line, no matter how many attempts it takes. + I am going to put in double the efforts to upskill myself + I am going to continuously manifest that there is another opportunity waiting just for me and keep paddling forward. + I am going to feel glad for the person who got the job because they have struggled as much as I have and wish them all the very best. And lastly, ++ I am going to thank my stars for giving me the best people to have my back during this journey. I wanted to share this with you since I know that a lot of us are going through this process together. So, to all those who have been in my place or are going to be walking a path similar to mine, this is to boost your morale and get you back to the grind. As a close peer told me recently, there is something good waiting for you, right by the corner.

I was 26 when I got my first job. My profile was 1 of 100s that the firm got. Telephonic interview was a checklist where basic questions were asked. I was called for a second interview and explicitly told that I will only be considered as an intern because I have no prior experience. This was an in-person assignment in the office which I finished in ~10 mins and then some more Q&A for 20 mins. The interview was just about getting over when I pulled out two memos I prepared. See, I scoped out the fund and read all its past quarterly letters. Then picked out two companies which I think the fund would like and made investment memos on them. The Principal looked at the memo and pointed out 2 numbers - he was so sure that the numbers were wrong because they had been closely following the stock for years. He even asked their intern to verify the number. My numbers were right, to 2 decimals. That got me my third interview. This time, it was an exercise to create a 3 year projections using financials and conference call transcripts of a masked company. Had no idea about the prospects, so instead of using my brain a lot, I created 3 scenarios - bear case, base case and bull case and assigned some numbers to all scenarios basis management commentary. It worked. Why? Instead of bullshitting with a single high confidence projection, I prepared 3 scenarios and said we can finetune with every quarters info. And every time the management meets expectation, we upgrade them from a bear to base or base to bull and vice versa. In 6-8 quarters we will not only know how management thinks but also how predictable its commentary is. That got me my final interview with the founder & CIO of the firm. Very basic but hard hitting questions. In the end I was offered a full time role and asked to join the very next day. Starting 10 am the next day, I had a job. This role was foundational in my learning journey and opened doors which are always closed. Why am I telling this story? Because in the last 12 months, I've received no less than 40 internship or analyst role applications and nobody has made the effort to look at our portfolio or recommend a company in the space or even a note/memo on good companies they like/admire. This is a very competitive field and if you do not make a genuine effort to stand out, what is the point of applying for a coveted position? Please make an effort. I understand it is difficult. I've been through this. But the rewards for your efforts will be unparalleled.

3moVery important, organisations should not only budget for hiring interns, just like they budget for any other staff, but also provide relevant induction, guidance and mentoring to those on an internship as appropriate. This will make for a much more effective experience for both the intern and the organisation. Felipe Paullier Olivera #YouthLead
