As a strategy of the @UNCResearch Roadmap, Carolina is hiring up to four researchers to build a new cross-disciplinary team that expands the University’s capacity to develop resources for substance use disorder, a growing public health crisis for our nation and state that requires swift and effective treatments. As part of the Catalyst Faculty Research Cluster Program, UNC-Chapel Hill is seeking researchers for tenure-track assistant professor positions in the following research areas: neuroengineering, biomolecular data science and drug discovery, clinical-translational psychiatry, and health behavior. Candidates with relevant backgrounds and expertise in any of these areas are encouraged to apply here for priority consideration by December 15: https://go.unc.edu/Rt9b7

Thanks Patrick for your presentation of our team's research on the temporal course of ketamine effects on EEG in patients with treatment resistant depression!
Next week, our team will present a scientific poster at the Society of Biological Psychiatry’s (SOBP) 2024 Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. Clinical Neuroscientist Patrick Kleine will present the preliminary electroencephalogram (EEG) findings from our multimodal imaging study, which is conducted in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital on Friday, May 10. In this study, we've delved deep into the neurological mechanisms underlying the rapid and sustained antidepressant effects of a compound being studied in a treatment-resistant depression (TRD) population to explore new mechanisms of action. This empirical research helps to bolster our Precision Mental Health (PMH) efforts to better understand treatment response in patients suffering from mental health conditions. #MentalHealth #TRD #SOBPAustin #SOBP24

Have you heard of the Nocebo Effect? In the new book The Nocebo Effect: When Words Make You Sick, two Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University faculty members explore this phenomenon. It refers to feeling sick as a result of expecting to feel sick and has been described as "the placebo effect's evil twin." Dr. Michael H. Bernstein is an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Director of the Brown Medical Expectations Lab. Dr. Walter Brown is a Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Both researchers have studied placebo and nocebo effects, and this is the first exclusive examination of the nocebo effect. https://buff.ly/49AqFKJ #NoceboEffect #NoceboEffectBook #LifeSciences #RhodeIsland

Very happy to announce that my colleagues at Elsevier have just launched a new academic journal that focuses particularly upon #Psychedelics Congratulations to Kate Wilson, and also to our colleagues Bilge San & Thijs Van Vlijmen PhD for all their work this past year in getting this journal from inception to launch! While we wait for the first submissions and curated article collections to populate its initial volumes, I think the A&S speaks well to our reasoning (as I was involved in the brainstorming stages) behind creating a bespoke multi-disciplinary journal: to help address growing public health and governmental regulatory efforts in a sound and ethical way. A&S: "Psychedelics focuses on significant developments in psychedelic research, publishing high-quality peer-reviewed articles across all fields of inquiry. The journal aspires to be an experiment in interdisciplinarity: we particularly welcome submissions that generate dialogue. This could take the form of collaborations across disciplines, or lead articles followed by responses coming from the same and/or from different disciplines. The journal is a space for exploring psychedelic medicine’s potential to be safe, effective, ethical and widely accessible. More broadly, it invites consideration of the many promises, possibilities, and problems entailed in the revival of psychedelic research today. In an age of nuances in the legal landscapes pertaining to psychedelic research Psychedelics was created to ensure the highest rigor in the development and evaluation of new treatments and practices. Our journal recognizes the importance of inviting and involving contributions of each related field in a dialogue that ultimately works to inform clinical psychology and psychiatry to ensure that psychedelic treatments and therapies are as safe and informed as possible. In addition to fundamental biochemical and pharmacological mapping of substances and their properties, neuroscientific research pertaining to the neurological effects that these substances illicit, and theoretical and case specific data gathered from clinical researchers in the fields of psychology and psychiatry, Psychedelics is also interested in entertaining submissions that are sociological, anthropological, or legal in nature, so long as their primary focus is upon psychedelic research or clinical treatment of patients with psychedelic substances." I look forward to seeing this journal grow and serve its purpose. https://lnkd.in/ebkZfgwF

Every year at the annual meeting of the Healthcare Systems Research Network we give an award for the Biggest Reject. The award goes to the person with the most rejections (grant submissions, manuscripts, etc.), the fastest rejection (world record is currently 22 minutes) or the most vitriolic and unhelpful rejection. The idea is to normalize and celebrate rejection because coping with rejection is a survival skill in academia. This year I am the Biggest Reject! I received a truly obnoxious and misguided peer review for a paper that was submitted to the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Some juicy highlights from a reviewer: "A study that is poorly designed, poorly executed, poorly analyzed is of use only as a cautionary tale as to how NOT to do such a study." "I don't think the authors here understand statistical hypothesis-testing." "The lessons we have learned from Nazi experiments, . . " If you are an academic, try not to be a jerk. If you are an Editor in Chief, don't let reviews with comments like these go out to authors.

Greetings of the day everyone, I am posting this to invite students/ medical professionals; enthusiastic about research to work on two ongoing case reports. 1.We are conducting a research study on Alcohol abuse disorder and seek expertise from professionals/students in psychology and psychiatry. Your insights as a [MBBS, BA/MA Psychology & Psychiatry] would significantly enhance our study. We also believe that your valuable insights will contribute to advancing knowledge in the field. 2. We are also reaching out as part of a case report exploring the impact of chemotherapy on immunocompromised patients. Your background in Internal medicine/ MBBS/ Gastroenterology/ Hepatology would bring invaluable perspectives. - Time required would be 5 hours per week. - Confidentiality: It is extremely essential to maintain confidentiality regarding the report, a breach of which would result in loss of authorship. - Inconsistency in work would also cause you to lose out on the authorship. Authorship would be totally based on the dedication of your work. If interested, please reply to receive further information. Also, mention the study that you would like to participate in and your qualifications. Thank you, Nidhi H.Vadhavekar
