PhDs - Have you applied for 100s of industry jobs without getting a single interview? This is a common experience for PhDs first making the transition to industry. I've reviewed 1000s of resumes throughout my career and the things that differentiate who gets an interview are simple. Stand out CVs / resumes: 1. Help me understand who you are as a person, so that I can evaluate if you'll fit with the team. 2. Give me tangible evidence that you're able to apply the skills I'm looking for. 3. Are easy to skim in less than 60 seconds. In the early stages of the screening process, hiring managers aren't often looking for huge amounts of detail. We're looking for enough clues to form a hypothesis that you're a good fit. So don't lose us in the detail. ♻️Repost to help a friend :) ________________________ Are you a PhD who is struggling to get interviews and land an industry job? DM me or check out my website. I finally received a notification to schedule an interview!!!! 🥳 But I am so nervous, how do I properly prepare for my interview? 😖 Does this sound like you?.... Well, keep reading friend I am going to help you out! 💡 Let's discuss how to prepare when the interviewers ask, "How is your experience relevant to this role?" ✨Research the Role: Before the interview, thoroughly review the job description to understand the key skills, qualifications, and responsibilities required for the role. ✨Identify Key Skills and Experiences: Identify the most critical skills and experiences listed in the job description. These could include technical skills, industry knowledge, leadership abilities, problem-solving capabilities, etc. ✨Match Your Experience: Reflect on your professional experiences, previous roles, and accomplishments. Identify instances where you demonstrated the skills and experiences relevant to the position you're applying for. ✨Structure Your Response: Organize your response clearly and concisely. You can use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your examples effectively. Last but not least my friend, head over to Black Women In Clinical Research ® to receive interview preparation with the best in the industry. In my new publication, I explore the signalling behaviour and reactions of Gen Y and Gen Z in traditional face-to-face 👨💼👩💼 as well as video-mediated 👨💻👩💻 job interviews. The results show that young applicants accept face-to-face interviews more but find them less fair (compared to online ones). Concerns about excessive signalling opportunities and manipulative impression management in face-to-face situations seem to be the underlying reason for this surprising and novel finding. The paper may be interesting for Gen Y and Gen Z candidates, who enter the labor market and HR professionals, who administer job interviews. It is published open access and can be downloaded from the website of management revue - Socio-Economic Studies. You will find the direct download link in the first comment below. ⬇⬇⬇ Thank you very much to all of you, who have participated in the survey. 🙏

How to BOSS your interview ✌ It's always good to have an informal chat with the hiring manager before the interview. This allows you to get an idea of what the role entails, but it also gets you known to the team 📞 Make sure you research the organisation you're applying to! You'll understand better how and where you would fit in, and it also gives you something to discuss during the interview 🔭 Always use the STAR method for answering questions. Talk about a situation you were in, the task ahead and the challenges you faced, the actions you performed and what the results were 💼 When using STAR, really sell your skill set, strengths that you bring and tie them in to how they benefited the results. Think of some examples ahead of your interview 💪 It's always good form to demonstrate your engagement by asking some questions at the end of the interview; how soon can I start? What training is available? ❓ Ready to take the plunge? Interviews are about cultural fit and answering the question 'Can I/they work with others at the company?' This is always best as a conversation. The next question is 'Can they do the work?' and to me this is the priority order when hiring.
