When I had the opportunity to listen and then speak to the representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), I figured it was an opportunity to hear from the horse’s mouth. I wanted to learn more about their operations, project design, and how they carry stakeholders along in their work in Africa. I asked the following questions. 1. How do you carry stakeholders along? Give a typical example 2. What’s your typical project design process? Does it start from the headquarters in Germany? Or from where the project will be implemented? 3. What was your work like in Abuja? (One of the representatives had worked in Abuja, Nigeria) 4. How do local policies affect your work? 5. There is a stereotypical and often wrong media representation of Africans or beneficiaries of development work in general. Are you doing anything to change this? Of course, I did not just read out the questions, I gave contexts. However, these summarise what I had typed in my Notes app. The importance of speaking to the relevant stakeholders in development policy cannot be overemphasized. It gives both parties insights into what is being done and what can be done better. A special thank you to my colleague, Aliya K. for taking this video without my knowledge 😁

Through strategic storytelling, we showcase the accomplishments of these partnerships, effectively illustrating how collective efforts yield tangible benefits for communities. ⏰️🛎 IT'S DEADLINE DAY! Two years ago, my family pelted me with a similar job ad. Two years later, I am working in the most amazing organization doing what I love, surrounded by incredible mentors and an iron sharpens iron set of colleagues. Of course, as it goes with any life experience, you will not always get along, but overall, from where I stand the positives far topple the negatives. Two years ago, I responded to such a job ad. I made the decision to ignore the surrounding noise, to silence the pessimism and cynicism, and toss a fishing rod into the deep, blue sea. When I reeled back the line; the payment for a little mustard seed was a great employer, great work environment, career growth opportunities, and above all a chance to serve our great country. What does this brief analogy mean to convey? If, for whatever reason, you are uncertain or unconfident about taking a chance on these positions? Remember the parable of the girl on LinkedIn, and with faith of half of a mustard seed, devote an hour or less to submitting that application. This holds true for every opportunity that you may feel unfit, unqualified, unconnected, ‘unenough’, insufficient, inadequate, or unprepared for, not just these Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) positions.
