Green Worms has been featured in the new edition of the Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker by The Circulate Initiative in Collaboration with IFC Climate & Sustainability. The launch comes at a pivotal time as negotiations towards a global plastics treaty reach the final stage. The third edition of the Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker highlights the significant financing gap that exists in tackling plastic pollution and the critical role private investments play in addressing it. This report provides the latest data and insights on the state of private investments in plastics circularity and sheds light on several examples of successful private capital mobilization. With ongoing discussions on the international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (ILBI), the findings signal the urgent need for greater transparency to support data-driven decision making. In the lead-up to the INC-5 negotiations, we have published a new video on the private investment landscape for plastics circularity solutions. As the plastic pollution crisis accelerates, with 30 million metric tons expected to leak into the environment annually by 2040, the financial action needed to tackle this challenge remains far behind. Our Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker, launched in cooperation with IFC Climate & Sustainability, allows users and decision-makers to assess current financial flows and provide actionable data to drive funding where it’s needed most. As global leaders convene at INC-5, closing this critical funding gap is more urgent than ever. We invite the global financial community to take action and join the fight against plastic pollution. The time to act is now. Chief Impact Officer Ellen Martin from #Circulate #Capital represents one of the 160 financial sector signatories representing over USD 15.5 Trillion Combined Assets endorsing the Finance Statement on Plastic Pollution calling on negotiators at the Fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee #INC4 to develop an ambitious International Legally Binding Instrument on ending plastic pollution that enable the role of finance from all sources, public and private. Ellen mentions in her speech that mobilisation of the 160 parties from the financial sector that have expressed willingness to act and represent USD 15.5 trillion and others in the financial sector would require: 👉Binding, common, concrete, measurable and global rules feeding into national regulations 👉 Mechanisms that derisk opportunity across the plastics value chain to increase economic viability of circularity for financiers 👉 Disclosure of standardised data to better inform investment decisions to avpoid plastic pollution in financial portfolios 👉 Acknowledging and acting on the co-benefits of combatting plastic pollution with finance for climate, biodiversity and also keep focus on job creation, livelihoods and role of waste pickers 👉Well designed EPR based on common design standards Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqgkjSt9

🖊️ The Global Plastics Treaty is more than just an agreement; it's a global commitment to a sustainable future. By fostering international cooperation and setting global framework, the treaty will significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste that pollutes our oceans and landscapes. This will not only protect marine life and biodiversity but also support the health and well-being of communities worldwide. Moreover, the treaty can encourage innovation and the development of eco-friendly materials, driving economic growth in the green sector. It represents a crucial step towards a circular economy, where waste is minimized, and resources are used more efficiently. This treaty represents a unique opportunity to safeguard our planet for future generations, and that #multistakeholder collaboration is the key to pave the way for an #inclusive approach, ensuring that progress leaves no one behind. 🔔 Stay tuned for more updates on the Global Plastics Treaty and negotiations at INC-4 #PlasticsTreaty #INC4

Towards Circular use of Plastics and More solutions to reduce the use and waste ..
The production and use of plastics has grown exponentially over the past decades. This is a big problem because very little of the world's plastic is recycled or reused. So it ends up clogging up the world's oceans and polluting food. Not only that: The plastics industry is the fastest-growing source of industrial greenhouse gases in the world. There are solutions. There are well-developed international governance systems that can be applied to plastics, including the Paris Agreement on climate change. And we can ensure the plastics life-cycle is circular. This means reducing the use of plastics, reusing what is produced and recycling what cannot be reused, along with developing alternatives to plastics. Last week, experts met at an event co-organized by the UN Climate Change secretariat and GRID-Arendal in Nairobi to discuss the issue. Read about it here: https://bit.ly/49IPTaG #UNEA6
