// Upgrading my Branded Game level // 🎮 Moving on with my 'Playable Packaging' concept - in which I demontrate my vision on how Brands can use Gaming Technology to engage with new communities - both online and offline. For demonstration purposes I use Epic Games Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) but the concept applies to any game engine. I worked on a couple of upgrades: 👉 added more vibrant colors and textures to stand out more against the main cardboard 👉 added decals = textures of imperfections - which give a game level extra levels of detail and realism 👉 added first game-play logic, like opening a door and collecting tokens. These simple quests will be the foundations for furher Branded quests and incentives Below is a realtime screencapture of UEFN's editor, followed by a short gameplay demo in Fortnite itself. Avatar: The Last Airbender — an early 2010s cult classic — has perhaps one of the most tragic portfolios in video games and live-action adaptations. Despite being such a popular IP, no studio has invested in creating a large-scale Avatar game, and the ones that did have brought us atrocities like Quest for Balance. Surprisingly, in 2019, a dedicated fan took it upon himself to bring a passionate Avatar game with everything fans needed. Four Seasons is an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan game by Elca and his small team of developers. This project started on a smaller scale, but after going viral with the first few uploads on Elca Gaming, the creator expanded his vision and poured in thousands of hours to create a game worthy of the Avatar name. Squad Busters: Supercell's Next Billion-Dollar Game? 💰 As a dedicated follower of Supercell, the Finnish mobile gaming powerhouse known for hits like Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars, I'm always excited about their new releases. Supercell's rigorous quality standards mean that any game making it through their testing phase to a global launch is eagerly awaited by both the industry and gamers. It’s been over five years since Supercell launched a new game worldwide, and their latest, Squad Busters, is set to launch globally on May 29th. The game is currently in soft launch in eight countries, including Singapore, allowing me the chance to play it over the past week. At its core, Squad Busters is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that mixes team-based combat and a battle royale-style shrinking arena. Players assemble squads from Supercell’s iconic character roster to compete in gem-collection battles. Personally, what makes it particularly interesting is its evolved take on the agar.io-style gameplay, where players try to ‘swarm and consume’ other players' units. The game features a polished and pretty addictive gameplay loop. Players begin with a single character, battling NPC (bot) enemies to earn gold which is then used to unlock and evolve squad members. Changing arena conditions and varied game modes help keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. Despite its simplicity, the game requires a strategic approach to decision-making, such as choosing whether to engage NPCs or other players and knowing when to retreat from battles. This complexity adds a strategic depth that may not be initially apparent. However, there are gameplay challenges, especially when players build large squads, making PvP battles chaotic and outcomes unpredictable. Additionally, the game looks and feels more casual + random compared to some of the previous Supercell titles, which is already causing some resistance (in forums) from their typical player base (but could help attract new players to the IP). As is typical in most live service games nowadays but even more so in Squad Busters, Supercell will need to maintain a steady stream of exciting updates and content to retain its player base. Despite these hurdles, Squad Busters’ polished gameplay and innovative blend of genres, coupled with Supercell’s strong track record, suggest it has the potential to be another hit for the developer. #SquadBusters #Supercell #Gaming (My squad in the middle going after the dragon on the right while another player is deliberating attacking me when I am distracted)
