As we wrap up our team’s "Week of Understanding," we’re reviewing our progress against our mission to: 1. Raise awareness of learning and thinking differences (we call these LTDs). 2. Reduce the stigma associated with asking for accommodations that help people with LTDs. 3. Provide even more tools and resources to help people with LTDs thrive. 4. Measure the impact we have in the lives of people with LTDs and their families. If you’re as energized as we are by what’s ahead and the impact we are making, you can be part of it. Consider becoming a partner in our mission at the link below or joining our team. Who knows, maybe we’ll be welcoming you to our next "Week of Understanding"! https://lnkd.in/ejf6mNph

What does it mean to advocate for #careerdevelopment? This question, among many others, framed a powerful discussion during the expert panel I moderated as part of Career Week - North America, co-hosted by CERIC, NCDA, and CCDF-FCDC. 🌟 Together with inspiring leaders from Canada, the US, and the UK—Shelby McIntyre, Katherine Jennick RCDP, Bella Doswell CCDP, RCDP, Sareena Hopkins, Marty Apodaca, LPCC, CCC, NCC, and Keka DasGupta—we explored: ❓ Why career advocacy matters: What drives us to champion career development as a right, not a privilege? ❓Challenges and breakthroughs: How do we navigate obstacles like resource limitations or misconceptions about career development’s value? ❓Actionable steps: What can each of us do, as career development professionals, to amplify the importance of this field and make lasting change? One insight resonated deeply with me: Career development isn’t just about finding work. It’s about shaping lives, communities, and futures. It’s about empowering individuals to discover fulfilling careers that align with their values and potential. Imagine a world where this isn’t the exception but the norm. I invite you to reflect: What role does career development play in your life, and how can you advocate for its importance in your sphere of influence? For those who couldn’t attend, here are a few resources discussed during the session to inspire your advocacy journey: 📘 Advocacy Toolkit (ASPECT BC - Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training): https://lnkd.in/gujGnfsH 📘 Beyond Decent Work Playbook: https://lnkd.in/gKA7yzsN 📘 National Advocacy Campaign in Canada: https://lnkd.in/gM8szCpg Thank you to my fellow panelists, our engaged audience, and the incredible organizing teams at CERIC, NCDA, and CCDF. We need to continue this important work together—because advocating for career development is advocating for brighter futures. #CareerDevelopment #Advocacy #CareerWeek #FutureOfWork #BeyondDecentWork #CanadaCareerMonth #CrossPollinators #CDBees

Imagine if we didn't consider ourselves to be "lucky" to find work that we love. Instead, what if our society operated on the principle that we all have the right to work in careers that fulfill us? What if that was our norm? How much more productive and innovative could we be in the workplace collectively, if we were guided to recognize our superpowers and if we could work in our sweet spots as a result? Lifelong career development advocates for exactly this - helping each of us in society find meaningful, well-paid work, that fulfills us personally too (it's what I call the "art of life-ing at work" in my keynotes). Today, I had the honour of co-representing Canada, through CERIC, on a collaborative US/UK/Canada panel that shared advocacy best practices from each region, to amplify the positive impact of career development on a global scale. We had more than 900 CDPs (career development professionals) register for this event, and it was thrilling to know that this effort attracted audiences from all across the world (from Canada to New Zealand)! Thank you to my fellow panelists, and the stellar team that put this all together: Mary Ann Powell, Melissa A. Venable, PhD, Shelby McIntyre, Marty Apodaca, LPCC, CCC, NCC, Trina Stanford, Deneen Pennington, Sareena Hopkins, Bella Doswell CCDP, RCDP, Katherine Jennick RCDP, and of course, our moderator extraordinaire, Candy Ho (何甜茵). Lisa Taylor, were your ears burning? Your name came up in our panel discussions, with all the incredible work that Challenge Factory is doing in this space! For any CDPs who missed the event, a recording of the session will be made available soon through the National Career Development Association. :)

6th June. D-Day. What an incredible moment in history ❤️ I'm currently on my annual Centre Parcs trip and I always find myself in reflection mode when I come here... There's something about the fresh air, the trees and being surrounded by nature that encourages me to relax and clear my mind... Despite the efforts of my two children 🤪 The News has been sharing stories about D-Day and the incredible humans that contributed to that unforgettable time in our history and I've been reflecting on our work 'away day', which happened to be at Bletchley Park a week ago today. Bletchley Park stands out as a powerful example of teamwork and collaboration. The codebreakers there worked tirelessly and often under immense pressure, and played a crucial role in the success of D-Day and the overall outcome of WW2. The lessons from Bletchley Park are more relevant then ever: ✨The ability to work together ✨Leveraging diverse skills and perspectives ✨A meaningful and clear purpose ✨Shared goals ✨A strong team culture ✨Trust Times are a little uncertain at the moment and the upcoming election will inevitably bring about change, and one thing we need to be ready for in the education sector is the prospect of change if a new government come to power. I'm confident that AQA are well positioned for whatever may happen in a few weeks' time, and I'm confident that People Group are ready to support, challenge and enable the business before, during and after whatever change may come. . . . #dday #change #collaboration #trust #teamwork #purpose #sharedgoals #team #aqa #education #generalelection

The Art of Asking Better Questions Bert Diener shares a powerful insight at our latest Partners Club event: "People not being engaged precedes them quitting." So how do we promote engagement? According to Bert, it starts with asking better quality questions. "The question is far more important than the answer." Through the FLOW process, he emphasizes that getting to the truth is essential for achieving lasting results and alignment within your team. "You won’t see engagement until we get to the truth."
