2024 Global Leadership Award for Sustainable Development 🏆 The National Initiative for Smart Green Projects by the Government of Egypt The National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP) is a presidential initiative launched by Egypt to localize the #Sustainable #Development #Goals, by integrating environmental #sustainability into the fabric of society. This nationwide competition is a unique platform that empowers individuals across Egypt’s 27 governorates to contribute local solutions to combat climate change. The breadth of the effort on both the geographic and sectoral scope is admirable. The Initiative focuses on integrating sustainability into the core strategies as opposed to adding sustainability to a conventional approach or doing one-off projects on sustainability, which is smart and ultimately essential. NISGP has effectively reduced Egypt’s carbon footprint through initiatives focused on #renewable energy, water #conservation, and waste management. The holistic approach has created a sustainable framework that balances environmental preservation with social equity and economic growth. By addressing the SDGs through a localized approach, NISGP demonstrates that sustainable development is not only achievable but also beneficial to society as a whole.

Obakeng Kgethe, Broll IFM: Business Development Executive, and Yusayn Núñez Yáñez, Head of PMO, recently attended the Built Environment Climate Change Indaba, held on 7th-8th November 2024 at Sibusisiwe Hall in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal. Organised by the Council for the Built Environment, this key event brought together leaders from across the built environment sector to address the critical need for climate resilience and sustainable development in South Africa. With the theme “Co-creation of Spaces and Places that Respond to the Just Transition,” the Indaba focused on discussions around sustainable building standards, Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), and strategies for developing climate-resilient communities. Through interactive sessions and panel discussions, attendees explored how to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment while promoting social equity and economic opportunity. Events like the Indaba are essential for driving meaningful, sustainable change in South Africa’s built environment. By engaging with industry leaders and policymakers, Obakeng and Yusayn gained valuable insights into how collaborative and innovative approaches can enhance resilience efforts across the country. HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Unveils Ambitious Red Sea Sustainability Strategy In a landmark announcement, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has launched the National Strategy for Red Sea Sustainability, a comprehensive initiative designed to safeguard the Red Sea's delicate ecosystem while bolstering Saudi Arabia's blue economy. This forward-thinking strategy aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, aiming to diversify the economy and promote sustainable development. The strategy is built upon five core pillars: 1. Environmental Sustainability: Prioritizing the protection and preservation of the Red Sea's unique marine habitats and biodiversity. 2. Economic Development: Fostering growth in maritime industries and promoting sustainable blue economy practices. 3. Social Development: Enhancing quality of life for coastal communities and creating new employment opportunities in the maritime sector. 4. Safety and Security: Ensuring the protection of marine borders and the safety of maritime activities. 5. Governance and Cooperation: Establishing effective management frameworks and fostering international partnerships for Red Sea conservation. To achieve these objectives, the strategy outlines 48 innovative initiatives tailored to realize Saudi Arabia's ambitious goals in developing its blue economy and related sectors. Key targets for 2030 include: - Expanding marine and coastal protected areas from 3% to 30%, significantly enhancing biodiversity conservation efforts. - Boosting the contribution of renewable energy to 50% of the targeted energy mix, promoting sustainable power generation in coastal regions. - Creating thousands of new job opportunities in the maritime and coastal sectors, supporting local employment and economic diversification. - Safeguarding the Kingdom's substantial investments in coastal tourism projects, ensuring their long-term viability and success. This comprehensive strategy underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to sustainable development and positions the Kingdom as a leader in marine conservation and blue economy initiatives in the region. #COP16 #sustainability #saudigreeninitiative #greenriyadh #unccd #reconnectingpeoplewithnature #SaudiArabia #ecofriendly Red Sea Sustainability Red Sea Global World Economic Forum #nrsss

It was a great opportunity for me at the United Nations 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to present the SDGs Scorecard for the Republic of Oman Global records indicate about 16% of the SDG targets in most countries by 2030; in some countries, targets are showing a reversal. As of 2024, Oman achieved a scorecard of 82.2%, confirming substantial advancements towards the SDGs. 11 out of the 17 targets are on track to achieve their targets by 2030. What is Oman doing that the rest of the world is not doing?
