Through our network of relationships, we harness the power of rugby and sport to make a positive impact on young people’s lives through sporting activities that promote healthy lifestyles, life skills and friendship. On top of that, we help protect the environment by saving valuable UK landfill sites from vast amounts of unwanted kit and reducing harmful Co2 emissions. WeSwim is a London-based organisation providing accessible swimming opportunities for disabled individuals. Addressing barriers such as transport, costs, and limited inclusive facilities, WeSwim creates a supportive environment for participants to improve their physical and mental well-being. Founded in 2021, they now operate across five London locations, supported by a large, dedicated team of volunteers. In the latest round of Grants for Good, WeSwim has been granted £2,000 from John Good Group | Growing Businesses Together to help cover costs such as venue hire, equipment, and volunteer expenses, ensuring that more people across London can benefit from its inclusive swimming sessions. 𝑩𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑵𝑬𝑾𝑺 Woodbank Cricket Club is set for a major revamp after securing almost £50,000 to improve our facilities. The money, awarded by the Suez Communities Fund, will be spend on three projects: 🏏 Installing a commercial standard kitchen so we can serve food at matches, training sessions and events 🏏 Resurfacing the area at the front of the clubhouse to make it more accessible to visitors 🏏Rewiring the entire building to bring it up to modern standards The work comes as our new members’ lounge continues to take shape in preparation for next season – in time for the club’s 90th anniversary. It will enable us to attract even more people to watch cricket and support the club. Chairman Martyn Ward, who was involved in the bid with the club’s grants committee, said: “Cricket clubs can only run due to the hard work of dedicated volunteers who ensure games go ahead and members have places to meet. “Thanks go to all those who worked hard to gather information and pull together this grant application in their spare time, as well as everyone working hard in the background to make things happen. “We’re here for the entire Brandlesholme community and we want as many people as possible to know they’re welcome to use our facilities and attend our events.” #Cricket #GrantFunding #SuccessStory #Bury #CommunityClub #UTB

Our mission is to provide quality football boots to young, aspiring footballers in Malawi, using football as an empowerment tool for digital inclusion. In many parts of Africa, football is more than just a game. It's a beacon of hope, a source of community, and a platform for young people to showcase their talent. However, many of these young players don't have access to basic football gear, like boots. They play barefoot on rough terrains, which not only hampers their performance but also puts them at risk of injuries. Each pair of boots costs $12 to manufacture. This cost includes the materials, labour, to ensure that the boots are of good quality and can withstand the rough terrains where these children play. We're aiming to raise £100,000. Pedal 2 Hajj: Unite for Gaza A 60-day journey of compassion, solidarity, and hope, spanning 13 countries and 3,635 Miles. Day 2: Update The journey continues, the cyclists reached Port of Tyne for the ferry to Amsterdam. The interest which Pedal2Hajj has created is amazing, 2 everyday lads setting out on a cycle journey from Scotland to Hajj sounds incredible to people even beyond the Muslim community. Sky News Calling Sky News heard about Pedal 2 Hajj and were keen catch up with the cyclist to learn more, they spent 2 days trying to stop Abdul Rahman and Reehan peddling for 5 minutes for an interview. Link Following the interview the cyclists were soon on the ferry to Amsterdam with a few hours to rest their tired legs before the next leg of the journey to Hajj. Gaza Inspiration Pedal 2 Hajj for Gaza was started with a desire to remind people of the horrendous situation in Gaza. After 6 months the situation remains unbearable for the Palestinians in Gaza. The daily statistics emerging from Gaza are shocking and beyond belief. Of the 35 hospitals that were in Gaza only 10 now remain, and even they are only barely functioning with minimal supplies. Take a walk alongside the River Coln on our Fairford Estate in Gloucestershire, and you’ll see evidence of recently harvested cricket bat willow trees. 🏏 These bat willows, grown as a timber product specifically for the manufacture of cricket bats, are a variety of white willow called Salix albus rullio, which refers to the blue-tinged leaf colour. It is particularly suited to areas of high moisture, hence why these have been planted by the banks of the River Coln. 🌳 The density of the wood is 10 times less than tropical hardwoods of equivalent impact resistance, making them such a great species for cricket bat production. They are also a form of carbon capture in that the carbon is locked up in the cricket bat for as long as it's used, and then even more afterwards if it is kept. The supplier we work with who harvest the bats, provide up to about 75% of the world's English cricket bat willow, and the English willow is amongst the highest rated for quality. Would you prefer to give finance or charity? Over the last few days there have been some headline stories about raising money. At COP29 after much arguing, wealthier countries have promised to raise their funding to help (usually) poorer countries on the front line of climate change to a record $300bn (£238bn).  This is far less than many requested but more than others wanted to pay. Meanwhile as Band Aid, the famous charity single designed to raise money to fight famine in Ethiopia has reached 40.  Putting aside the argument about whether the lyrics are appropriate for 2024, the distinction between finance and charity feels particularly salient. Fail to provide the former and you end up needing to provide more of the latter. You can see how that could play out with climate change. Without proper finance to help poorer, often low-lying nations mitigate for the now inevitable environmental challenges they will face, the scale of disasters that may sadly befall them, will be that much bigger and in turn require far more emergency ‘charity’ when they do occur. Not helping adequately now is a false economy as you’ll end up having to do it later anyway. How we choose to fund today’s solutions will define tomorrow's legacy. I’m really not an expert in any of this, but I am interested.  In an ever-evolving landscape of global aid and finance, surely we have to ask ourselves if we want to help empower through finance or ‘rescue’ through charity?
