A few weeks ago, I visited NYC—the place where I was born! (Fun fact: I always thought I was born in Flushing, but turns out, it was St. John’s Hospital in Manhattan. So technically, Manhattan is my birthplace!)
While I was there, I indulged in one of my favorite foods: bagels. It got me thinking—what makes NYC bagels so good? A little research revealed it’s not just the famous NYC water (though that helps), but the meticulous process behind them. From perfecting the ratio of ingredients to letting the dough rest, boiling, and then baking—it’s a labor of love that takes up to 24 hours.
Yet, even in 20-degree weather, there’s always a line around the corner. Why? Because the result is worth the wait.
This reminded me of how we approach our work at Merit Financial Advisors. Like crafting the perfect bagel, there are no shortcuts when it comes to building something exceptional. It’s about the people, the process, and the products and services we provide. We take the time to get it right—helping our advisors serve their clients with care and precision.
Just like those NYC bagels, when you put in the work, the results speak for themselves. 🥯✨
P.S. Yes, I purchased the bagels to happily carry them back to Atlanta because it was so worth it. 💞

It’s official – the winter holidays are around the corner. This season is when many of us gather to celebrate with extended family. No matter how you celebrate, our relatives are always prepared with enough questions to last through the final eggnog toast.
Check out the tips in the article linked below for managing Q&A – whether the questions are coming from the Board of Directors or your dear Aunt Sue.

First impressions matter.
My wife and I serve on the leadership team at our church.
Most Sundays, we’re at church at 6:20 a.m. to prepare our environment for Sunday service. We put up canopies, make coffee, put up flags, clean bathrooms, and nurseries, restock… all the unglamorous things.
That means we bring the girls with us, too. The alarm goes off at 4:30am, and needless to say, they’re not usually thrilled. And serving is a family affair. They absolutely help.
“Why do we serve so much, Dad?!” I get this question a lot. We tell them, “Because this could be someone’s first time coming to church, and how it looks and how it feels matters when they show up.”
How do people see you or your company for the first time?
What do they see when they pull into the parking lot? What’s the first thing they see and hear in the office?
Is it clean?
Do people seem engaged or disconnected?
Can you smell the break room lunches from the lobby? Are people energetic?
Are you smiling or stressed?
So many things can be determined without a word ever being spoken.
So, it’s your job to ensure that your culture and environment speak to your core values. They do, whether you’re intentional about it or not.
