Today, on #IWD2024, we recognize the legacy of settlement house workers, who built a movement in which women inspire positive change within their communities. From settlement house leaders whose names we remember to many other unsung heroes, their impact still resonates today.

🗓️ In 2023, a woman was intentionally killed by a partner or family member every 10 minutes. Nearly one and three women experience violence in their lifetime. This usually relates to #physicalviolence and is an urgent crisis. 🙏🏽 The “#16Days” campaign dates back to 1991 marking a critical moment in the global movement to come back #genderbasedviolence (#GBV). The 16 days campaign encourages us to end violence against women and girls by sharing the actions we are taking to create a world free from violence toward #women, including #transwomen. 🌎 We often think of violence as physical, and sometimes we remember it can also have a psychological effect. However, #violence includes #structuralviolence, as well. We see this around the world, including the U.S., in a multitude of ways - #healthdisparities, #socialexclusion, #ageism, #racialdisparities, #economicdisparities, dehumanization, and so forth. The overturning of Roe v. Wade is just an example of the rapid rolling back of protections. Even here in Massachusetts, it was only this past summer we saw the passing of the Francis Perkins Workplace Equity Act (shout out to my dear friend, Megan Driscoll who worked hard on making this possible!) which was designed to enhance pay #transparency, and address wage #disparities in the Commonwealth. While I appreciate the laws put into place to support women in a state like mine, there’s still much more work to do. ❓What can you commit to between November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and December 10 (International Day of Human Rights) - and carry into your every day?? Let us reimagine a future that is free from #GBV (in all its forms) and strive toward creating a society that values respect and #dignity for all. #violence #violenceprevention #16dayscampaign #structuralviolence Commonwealth of Massachusetts #violenceagainstwomen Maura Healey Kim Driscoll #payequity #workplaceequity

Ahead of #IWD2024, revisit UNAIDS Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima's powerful message: "Progress will come when we put power in the hands and money in the hands of those whose lives are most impacted by the denial of rights. Women and girls from the poorest, most marginalized communities are the most important leaders in this struggle. We must support and resource them. We must allow them to lead." At TFCA Action for Women, we understand the complex challenges faced by women trapped in cycles of domestic violence, often intensified by deep-seated cultural beliefs, family honor, and the heavy weight of shame. Too often, societal expectations and traditional norms pressure women to stay silent, even when faced with abuse, fearing the judgment or abandonment that can follow a decision to leave. Our mission is to offer a safe, supportive environment that respects every woman’s unique background and experiences. We know that family honor and cultural beliefs can be powerful influences, but we also believe in a woman’s right to live free from fear and violence. TFCA Action for Women provides resources to empower women, helping them make informed decisions for their well-being without shame or isolation. Every woman deserves dignity, safety, and a future shaped by her choices—not by fear. Together, we can create a supportive community that stands against domestic violence, breaking down harmful stigmas and enabling women to reclaim their lives with strength, respect, and hope. #EndTheStigma #EmpowerWomen #BreakTheCycle #CulturalSensitivity #TFCAForWomen #FamilySupport #AgainstViolence #SafeChoices #WomenSupportingWomen #DomesticViolenceAwareness

Feminism shouldn't stop with just seeing women represented at the top of society. It must start with fighting for a better world, for those at the bottom. For this, feminist movements must unite with other movements - anti-caste, environmentalists, labor and migrant rights movements. Only then can the feminist movement be a beacon of hope for the millions of working class women across the world. At TTCU, we strongly believe this, and this is what has driven us to success even in the Justice for Jeyasre campaign, leading to the Dindigul Agreement This women's day, let us reclaim the slogan 'Bread and Roses' - calling for labor rights, dignity and social justice for everyone. Let us break the boundaries that isolate and divide us. Let us reject the undervaluation of our work, our contributions and our humanity. Let us be able to dream, hope and imagine new possibilities, where we are not constrained by gender roles, and are able to offer freedom, liberation and beauty for all. Do not forget, solidarity is our greatest weapon for change. #iwd2024 Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) Cividep India Global Fund for Women Lavinia Muth Business & Human Rights Resource Centre Gopika Bashi
One of the slogans of first women's day was 'Bread and Roses' - highlighting the need for better wages and a better quality of life. We need to return & re-assert the radical roots of the #feminist movement, calling for social justice, living wages and decent work for all. Today we want to extend our solidarity to all the women around the world who are rising up to secure better working conditions, living wages and to end gender-based violence. #iwd2024 #womenempowerment #genderequality

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Caring is already a demanding and selfless role, yet women carers in our community can face additional difficulties, including violence and disrespect. Today, we acknowledge the strength and resilience of women carers, and all women, and stand in solidarity to say NO to violence against women in all its forms. Let's ensure that every woman, including those who dedicate themselves to caring for others, feels safe, valued, and respected in our community. Caring for those who care starts with kindness, recognition, and support. Let's strive for a society that uplifts women and champions their well-being. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #NoExcuse #CarersACT #16days
