In songwriting, coherence is key to creating impactful music. Drawing inspiration from Donald Miller, human beings are constantly looking for the things that help them meet their needs. We can approach a song’s structure like measuring fuel in a tank—it’s somewhere between full or empty, symbolizing a need that is either closer to being fulfilled or further away from it - illustrating the gap between a person’s current struggle and their desired outcome. This concept is vital in lyrical composition: a listener must be guided from an initial state of struggle to a satisfying resolution. As songwriters, ensuring the beginning and the end of the song are meaningfully connected is essential to producing work that resonates. Coherence in lyrics not only elevates the storytelling aspect but also provides a clear path for emotional progression. For record labels and music professionals, fostering such intentionality in songwriting can lead to more compelling music that leaves a lasting impression. #SongwritingStrategy #MusicCoherence #LyricalStructure #StorytellingInMusic #MusicBusiness #CreativeProcess

The million-dollar question every songwriter wants answered: How much do songwriters actually make? As a 30-year music industry veteran and former executive at BMG, EMI, and Kobalt, I've seen the royalty statements come through and know the dirty details. The revenue sources, deductions, and calculations can get pretty complicated. In this brutally honest article, I break it all down: From the heyday of CD sales in the 90s when a cut on a Whitney Houston album could make you a millionaire, to the streaming world today where getting on a Selena Gomez album might only net you a few thousand bucks. You'll learn: 👉 The typical royalty calculations for album cuts, singles, streams, and synch placements 👉 How much 1 million streams are really worth (the number might shock you) 👉 The shady "controlled composition" deduction that can cut your royalties by 25% 👉 Why writing singles is now the ONLY way for professional songwriters to survive 👉 How I made $77,350 from one album cut, and why that same song would be worth 90% LESS today Whether you're an aspiring songwriter trying to make it or an independent artist wondering about your own releases, this article pulls back the curtain on the income realities. You'll get the real numbers and see exactly how much (or little) the biggest hits are worth in 2024. No punches pulled. I'm arming you with the data you need to approach this game with your eyes wide open. So, click the link and get educated. Your songwriting career may depend on it: https://lnkd.in/gmHCqtR #IndieMusic #MusicBusiness #MusicIndustry #MusicPublishing #MusicRoyalties #MusicStreaming #MusicSync #MusicSynch #Songwriter #Songwriting

What Is a Song Split Sheet? 🤯💢 A song split sheet is essentially an agreement used to document the percentage ownership each contributor holds in a song. Think of it as the DNA blueprint of your track's ownership. 🧬 Whether you're laying down a beat, writing the lyrics, or crafting that killer melody, a split sheet ensures every creative brain behind the track is acknowledged and compensated fairly. Why Is It Crucial? 🔹 Clarity and Transparency: In the creative rush, it’s easy to get swept up in the beats and bars. A split sheet puts everyone’s contribution in black and white, avoiding messy disputes later. Transparency from the get-go? Yes, please! 🔹 Protect Your Art: It’s not just about fairness; it’s about legal protection too. Properly filling out a split sheet can save you from copyright headaches and potential lawsuits. 🚫👩⚖️ 🔹 Professionalism: Using split sheets shows you’re serious about your craft and respect not only your own work but also the work of your collaborators. It sets the stage for professional relationships which are built to last. When Should You Fill One Out? Before the song makes it to any streaming platform, before the music video drops, even before you register the song—get that split sheet signed by all involved parties. Make it a non-negotiable part of your song release checklist. ✅ ➡️ FOLLOW FOR MORE INSIGHT ON HOW TO GET PAID AS A MUSIC PRODUCER ‼️ #musicianlife #musicindustry #recordingartist #musicstudio #musicmaker #musician #makingmusic #recordingstudio #makemusic #musicmakers #indiemusic #recordproducer #musicrecording #musicians #songwriters #recording #independentmusician #newmusic #independentmusic #newsound #musiclife #recordingsession #musicislife #logicprox #akaimpkmini #audioengineer #musicproducers #musicproductions #recordingartists #musicengineer #producing #mastering #musicmaking #makingbeats
