I have been meaning to post this for some time, but better late than never! I’m thrilled to announce that I have graduated with a Master of Science with Distinction in Investment and Finance (CFA Pathway) from Queen Mary University of London. This journey has been nothing short of transformative. I had the opportunity to engage deeply with courses that shaped my understanding of the financial world, including: • Mergers & Acquisitions • Private Equity & Venture Capital • Financial Derivatives • Valuation • Asset Pricing, Trading & Portfolio Construction • ESG Analysis • Principles of Corporate Finance My additional achievement is that I pursued an optional Financial Trading Program, which helped me gain advanced theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of financial markets, trading strategies, risk and money management and trader analytics. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to some of my professors who guided and inspired me throughout this journey— Patrick Boyle Jesse McDougall, Omiros D. Sarikas, Ilaria Piatti, and Vimal Balasubramaniam. Their expertise and mentorship, whether in understanding complex financial instruments, alternative investments, mergers & acquisitions, portfolio management or ESG investing, have been instrumental in shaping my skills and passion for the field. Some of the projects I worked on during my degree include: • Conducted an in-depth portfolio analysis using Fama-French 10 industry portfolios. Applied advanced statistical techniques and R programming to perform rolling regressions to assess out-of-sample predictability and optimise global minimum variance portfolios • Developing a comprehensive financial model for the acquisition of Dorman Products Inc by Snap-on Inc., analyzing synergies, accretion/dilution effects, and deal feasibility. • Achieved top score in ESG Investing research project with an analysis of J.P. Morgan’s sustainability practices. Assessed ESG impacts on business model, competitive position, and valuation using advanced metrics and reporting standards, providing strategic investment recommendations. Looking ahead, I’m excited to apply these skills to make meaningful contributions in investment banking, hedge funds, asset management, and beyond. 🎙 In the framework of the #DISAseminars, we had the honor to host Alexander Wagner. 🔍 As a professor at the Department of Finance of the University of Zurich and as a senior chair of the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI), Wagner has taught corporate finance to students and executives and helped shape governance systems of companies, large and small. He is the Chairman of the Executive Education of the UZH Faculty of Business, Economics, and Informatics and Co-Head of the UZH Center for Crisis Competence. He has served as chairman of a proxy advisor and as an independent counsel for PwC. His research focuses on corporate finance, sustainable finance, and behavioral economics. 📚 During the seminar, we explored the relationship between US mutual fund managers' incentives to deliver high returns and their portfolio Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. Mutual funds with managerial ownership ("skin in the game'') exhibit lower ESG performance than otherwise similar funds. This effect is stronger for managers paid to maximize assets under management. Co-investing managers are less likely to buy high-ESG stocks after exogenous shocks in the flow incentives to hold such assets. Overall, the results suggest that fund managers, on average, do not consider ESG selection an enhanced form of portfolio management to maximize risk-adjusted returns. 🌟 We thank Alexander for the presentation and the discussion that followed!
