Timothée Chalamet reveals he had to “push the preparation and bounds” to embody Bob Dylan for the upcoming biopic, “A Complete Unknown,” out Christmas Day.
Chalamet knows all eyes would be on him and how his portrayal of the musician, considered one of the greatest songwriters of all time, lives up to the real thing. “People are deeply protective of Bob Dylan and his music legacy,” Chalamet says, “because it’s so pure in a sense, and they don’t want to see a biopic mishandle that.”

I'm rewriting the expression "There's no business like show business" (the final song in the musical "Annie Get Your Gun") to this: "There's no aggrandizement like self-aggrandizement."
Here's mine: my article on managing regret risk made it to #7 in the CFA Institute's Enterprising Investor blog. This appeared (in longer form) in an article published in the Journal of Performance Measurement, and there's an enhanced version I developed as part of a year-long series for First Rate.

In addition to thematic ways, there are artistic ones: poetic, musical, and pictorial. Poetically, Nietzsche varies and changes his themes and their weight (primary matters become secondary and vice versa); after long ‘logical’ transitions he suddenly skips intermediate steps; he sometimes leaves themes completely unconnected in hard stops; he suddenly addresses the reader or stages dialogues and soliloquies; his tone is sometimes strongly determined, sometimes emphatically questionable, here clear, there enigmatic, etc.
Musically, he alternates between different tempi and tones (factual, serious, dramatic vs. ironic, cheerful, sober), and between homophonic-harmonic and polyphonic-contrapuntal compositions of themes. All this has so far hardly been explored.
Pictorially, he proceeds like the Cubists in fine art, who were soon to reach worldwide fame. Like them, he dispenses with the illusion of the one-point perspective and shows his respective object in staggered, twisted and surprisingly new compositions. In each case, an object becomes visible not as seemingly true, but rather in its richness possible perspectives. The view rich in perspectives is more complex; it offers a more differentiated and expressive picture of reality than the systematic approach limited to one view, especially when it claims to be the only true one.
One can of course simplify these perspectives again by making a system out of Nietzsche’s philosophizing. But this is then the reader’s system, not Nietzsche’s.

My first theater professor taught me once:
"All stories have been told. It's about telling the same stories in new, innovative ways".
Hence, my constant obsession for writing important stories but in new, unseen and unimagined settings.
As a lover of classical music, it always appealed to me the synchronicity required to produce the best music ever written, and how a small or big change impacts the end result of a performance.
"Crescendo" aims to explore those human dynamics and interactions, in a storyworld not frequently seen.

Crescendo

Drama/Thriller

🎵 "What was your favorite record of 2023? For me, it was Peter Gabriel's I/O. A brilliant set of songs from a legend in his later years, and probably the best record reveal of all time, with the "one new song every full moon" approach. 🌕
Here's a short clip of the title cut from his show last September in MSG here in New York. 🎤🎸

Last week, I enjoyed learning more about Jon Batiste through his music and recent Netflix documentary, American Symphony. Today, on Woman Power Wednesday, I celebrate his remarkable wife, Suleika Jaouad.
https://lnkd.in/eeVaim98
The initial concept for American Symphony was for director Matt Heineman to follow Jon on a journey around America as he set about reimagining what a symphony is about. He planned to travel across the country to recruit all types of musicians (jazz, blues, classical, and Indigenous) and figure out how to bring them together.
However, what unfolded was a set of circumstances that set Jon and his wife, Suleika, on a path of trauma. On the same day Jon is nominated for a record number of Grammy Awards, they find out that Suleika’s leukaemia, which had been in remission for ten years, has returned.
This set in motion a new plan for Heineman to film Jon and Suleika’s journey of contrast and to build that story into the documentary. The result is a powerful and moving love story.
--> "If you end up with a project that you started with, you’re not doing your job right because you weren’t listening along the way. And that proved to be true in ways that we couldn’t possibly imagine." <--
If you want to learn more from Suleika’s perspective, the TED podcast (link in the header above) with Susan Zimmerman is a great listen. Suleika speaks with grace and vulnerability.
--> "You must be one percent more curious than afraid. Curiosity is a more honest way into the creative process, where you don’t hold to an expectation of how something should look or how something will come together." <--

Excitement Builds for Yasiin Bey's Upcoming Releases
The anticipation is palpable as Yasiin Bey, famous for his impactful contributions to hip-hop as Mos Def, gears up for new musical projects. Despite the lack of confirmed details surrounding a forthcoming solo album, the mere prospect has fans on edge, especially with the potential return of Black Star, his iconic collaboration with Talib Kweli, after over two decades. Fans can look forward to Bey's upcoming EP, "Money Christmas," set for a unique live debut on December 15, 2024, his first solo work in five years. With such a strong legacy in his solo discography and celebrated collaborations, what do you think will be the defining element of Yasiin Bey's new releases? Which aspects of his past works are you most excited to see evolve?
This is a case that shows the difference between formal logic and informal logic. Logic is the study of correct reasoning. Informal logic is associated with informal fallacies, critical thinking, and argumentation theory. Formal logic is the study of deductively valid inferences or logical truths. With informal logic, what seems to be illogical can be logical, provided that the argument supports it. To a large extent, laws is mostly made up of informal logic than formal logic. Therefore, whether guilty or not, it is a matter of human judgement. In this case, it will be decided by the jury that make the call.
Please talk me “off the ledge” on this one. (ETA: I mean this metaphorically, as a society) And for even more context, below was a post that immediately followed a clip showing a slideshow homage of this murderer, with Disney-themed music playing in the background (claims to be from some Bop to the Top tour in Boston).
Add that an odd exchange with a fellow physician the other day, where they said that while they “don’t condone murder”, this guy is a hero and that they would choose him for their own son over the CEO any day, plus pardon him if they were on his jury, and I’m honestly now thinking: where have we gone wrong, as a society? Like, from all fronts.

I’ll try-
As I think about this a lot
Human psychology is complex and this event illustrates how so.
1. This is a post to encourage discussion and any attempt to do so takes courage as this engenders great emotion
2. My personal opinion is that Mr Mangione should be tried in a court of law, his charge, 1st degree murder of an innocent man, and if convicted, should serve the term of his sentence, probably incarceration for life.
3. Now, the symbolism that is at play here. A young, handsome, educated, despondent white man, who will most likely share some pretty horrible personal and family dealings with the publicly traded, profit machine of American Healthcare, UnitedHealth, the insurance arm of the still larger profit mega conglomerate UnitedHealth Group.
He drops out of society and conceives an ill advised act of desperation, he is going to shoot UnitedHealthcare.
He does not know Mr. Thompson, just as political assassins do not know their victims.
They represent injustice and the acts are deranged but INTENDED to force change by removing the person felt to be responsible or by harnessing the immense power of public opinion.
4. In his head, Luigi Mangione knows the consequences of his action, he left far too many clues to believe he didn’t anticipate capture, trial, and sentencing.
In his head, he perpetrated an act to try and keep what he and his family experienced from happening again and again to others.
And other humans subconsciously understand this, I don’t know how this works, it just does.
5. Luigi Mangione is the ultimate underdog taking on the American insurance industry. Many have suffered, and yes died, because of financially driven policies that are unilaterally levied with minimal oversight and consequences, against policy holders expecting to be covered in their moments of greatest need. The government is somewhat complicit and only the court of public opinion is strong enough to change the way business is conducted by threatening reelection to those congresspeople who vote on healthcare legislation. Emotion, such as in abortion, gun control, immigration sway government, without it there is only lobbying and money driven laws.
6. Look at the response of the insurance companies. NO response, no getting ahead of this. They go undercover, build fences around their fortresses of power, and press ahead. Except the initiative to even control TIME in surgery failed because it was bothched by this kid’s shooting. They behave as understanding there’s a lot of anger, discontent, and wrongdoing but they ignore it because they control the legislation determining the LEGALITY of their practices.
Luigi Mangione controls Nothing
7. This act will, like so much of life now, be a polarizing event based on individual perspectives. We can be conflicted by feelings of sympathy for the Thompson family on this horrible tragedy and empathy for the young man throwing his life away.
We’re just human and it’s just business
