I am two weeks into my new gig as a part time instructor at the #CTstatecollegesandUniversities, specifically, Gateway Community College in New Haven. This is what Ive learned from my students so far: 1. There is no one reason to haven chosen Community College over a traditional 4 year university. Just as there is diversity in the population, there is diversity in the reason. 2. 94% of my students want to learn and excel. 4% are overwhelmed by the transition from their prior educational experience- they were ill prepared. 1% are there because they didn’t know what to do- a valid response to indecision if you ask me. ( I know that’s only 99%.) 3. The age range in my classes is 17-62. I love that I have a student who is older than myself… life long learners of the world unite! 4. Not a single student has been taught to read a syllabus. Is this an effect from the COVID years or from teachers having to spin like dervishes to meet metrics. 5. I dont give tests or quizzes. Because at no point in my professional career have I had to take a test ( not for licensure, but inside my job) that was graded and commented upon. I do give group projects, public speaking assignments, research, writing, emailing, interview practice, communication lessons, feedback, and goal setting exercises. The relief on my students’ faces was measurable.. no one likes a test. In these times where everyone seems to be arguing about what is next, I can tell you that “ what’s next” is WHO is next… and this next generation, although not perfect, will successfully lead the world.

This month I celebrate my first year working as a cover supervisor. Ironically, although I am there to teach the students I have probably learnt a lot more through this job! - I gained confidence presenting in front of groups of people, and can now happily present my work and anything else without being nervous. - I can learn enough to teach a topic and then present it to a class without knowing what the material would be until an hour prior. - I learnt how to use many different systems for recording and obtaining data. - I am now able to prioritise my time based on urgency of tasks or needs and time left to deliver information. - I learnt that the best way to get through to students and to build rapport it through communication. They tend not to respond well to being a strict stranger, but they preferred mutually respectful but no nonsense. Teaching styles vary, and it was difficult to find one that worked for me but I was successful after multiple trials. - Visiting the same schools multiple times allows students to get used to me and I'm no longer a stranger, which makes it easier for everyone. - I am very good at chatting and can comfort a student or fill empty space by talking about their interests. - Accessibility is still a core part of my teaching. Helping everyone to gain an equal education is part of my ethos.

MSME apprenticeship Context : MSME apprenticeship may become shorter, better-paid Extract from the article: The article discusses the potential transformation of the MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) apprenticeship program into shorter, better-paid opportunities. This shift aims to enhance the attractiveness of apprenticeships, providing improved compensation to apprentices. The proposal includes incentivizing MSMEs to train at least two apprentices annually under the Apprentice Act by subsidizing the stipend paid to trainees by 50%. Moreover, there would be no obligation for MSMEs to absorb the trainees after their training. The primary goal is to significantly increase the number of apprentices trained annually, addressing the current limitation in funding and time for constructing new training centers. The focus is on revolutionizing the apprenticeship landscape by making it more lucrative and efficient, ultimately aiming to boost skill development, productivity, and employment opportunities within the MSME sector. My Take: Training Shortcut - Online Virtual Reality…….11/01/2024 "Reflecting on my past blog, I emphasized the importance of VR-based training for apprentices, an aspect now gaining traction in the proposed MSME apprenticeship changes. Offering VR headsets to MSMEs for training could be a game-changer in enhancing skill development and engagement." For Attn Smt. Sitharamanji - For Budget………31/10/2023 "In my earlier blog addressed to the Ministry for implementation of MaanDhan Scheme, I highlighted the need for incentivizing MSMEs to train apprentices. The current proposal aligns with my suggestion of subsidizing trainee stipends and eliminating the obligation to absorb them post-training, fostering a more dynamic and sustainable apprenticeship ecosystem." Apprentices - Hire Any Number Without………………28/01/2022 "Proposing a change in the apprentice-to-worker ratio, I emphasized the potential for increased demand for ITI-trained students. The extended retention period for ITI-trained workers under the amended Apprentice Act aligns with the objective of making MSMEs more competitive by reducing labor costs. This could lead to a paradigm shift in the supply chain dynamics, enhancing the overall competitiveness of Indian products in the global market." Call to Action: To the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and MSMEs: Embrace the proposed changes in the apprenticeship system to drive skill development, enhance productivity, and create more inclusive employment opportunities within the MSME sector. Invest in innovative training methods like VR-based programs and consider the long-term benefits of nurturing a skilled workforce through revamped apprenticeship initiatives. Why are people with academic success struggling to find jobs or careers? Shouldn’t educational success through hard work, time spent, and effort given be enough? It should be but I’ll tell you why it isnt. Peers on jobs have become lazy, cheap, and incompetent. If you are competent enough to know the details of the job role, why not teach others. A bachelors degree, masters degree, and doctorate degree should be enough to have someone willing to teach and train. Give some of us a chance to prove that our dedication towards going to school, spending long hours towards our high GPAs, time away from our children, studying day in and day out, long nights early mornings, missing out on family events, and whole lot more to be able to have good careers to take care of our families & excel in life. Our educational background should mean something. Give people with degrees a chance!

Happy May Day!🥳 Once upon a time, a retired school teacher met his old student. Teacher: Oh Man!, Its great to see you as a teacher. You will be rewarded at the right time for your contributions. Student: Thanks, sir.its my pleasure to see you after a while. Teacher: Good. How will you manage your surroundings and colleagues. Student: Sir. Giving money when needed, sharing greetings, joining for functions. Teacher: Oh man. It's good. But as an employee or a teacher, 1.Take ownership and do all the work with full commitment and happiness. 2.Do the tasks one by one for a better outcome. 3.Stay on your tempo at any situation. Stay calm when things are not favored to you. 4.Keep smiling to everybody. Greet everybody unbiasingly. These make your environment much more peaceful and progressing. Its enough more than any of your contributions. Stay blessed. Student: 🙏 🌿Pleasure in the job, Perfection in the work. Happy May Day🤝
