United to Beat Malaria’s Post

The #WorldMalariaReport is an annual barometer of progress and setbacks in the fight against this deadly disease. The good news? Since 2000, the death rate has been cut in half, 26 countries have eliminated the disease, and 2.2 billion malaria cases have been averted. But despite these impressive gains, 2023 saw 11 million more cases than the year before. Equitable access to key interventions remains critical. Last year, 255 million insecticide-treated bed nets reached families, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. 20% of these were new, next-generation dual active-ingredient nets. While six in ten young children and expectant mothers were sleeping under nets, in the overall population at risk, only about half were doing so. These numbers matter more as social and environmental factors make it harder to get nets to every family that needs one – but it's never been more important.
