Happy National Flag Day Every year, when the National Capital - New Delhi gets decked up for the Independence day/Republic Day functions, it's so fulfilling to watch our symbol of unity & strength everywhere, specially when Tiranga is in the hands of toddlers and young kids who wouldn't stop waving the Tricolour, as if a promise to the nation, to be the forebearers of national pride, traditions & responsibilities. But the sight of roads next day or even after the parade is itself so depressing. Flags are strewn everywhere on road, lying trampled as if died of agony and hurt, specially the plastic ones. This is not the sight reserved for the parade ground only but also for our homes, schools, workplaces, parks or any other public places. I understand, flags become too old to use or torn, faded, etc. but throwing away isn't the option. Treat the flags if the Tiranga is a living entity. Cremate the flag (preferably in private) with honours fitting a departed. While we celebrate with our flag let's not forget to give the Tricolour it's well deserved farewell. While we all talk of our rights, we fail to remember our National Duty. Let's do our duty first before claiming that guaranteed right. #Tricolour #Tiranga #HarGharTiranga #National_Flag_Day #National_Flag_Adoption_Day #India #Bharat P.S. Below is a self written children's poem titled 'Journey of a Flag'. Do read it out to kids for them to know they are responsible for Tiranga's AAN, BAAN, SHAAN & are the forebearers of this country's legacy. https://lnkd.in/gDhKFTDa

1st June makes 40 years since the third Sikh genocide of 1984. The most scared shrine of the Sikhs, Sri Darbar Sahib (aka Golden temple) along with at least 40 other gurudwaras in Punjab were simultaneously attacked by the Indian army. Let's put this into context; imagine how Muslims would feel if there was a full scale army attack on Mecca or Catholics if there was such an attack on the Vatican church. All foreign journalists were expelled from Punjab, telephone lines were cut and roads into and out of Punjab were blocked off effectively isolating Punjab from the rest of the world. One Indian journalist, Brahma Chaney, managed to stay within Punjab and reported witnessing Sikh men shot at point blank range by the Indian army with their hands tied behind their backs with their turbans. Contrary to popular belief, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale was not fighting for Khalistan (Independent Sikh homeland), he was actually fighting for the anandpour Sahib resolution which would have benefited all Punjabis regardless of religion. This political fight was portraited by the Indian media as being Sikhs vs Hindus which is simply not true. India is a great country with unlimited potential (that's why the British used to call it the "jewel in crown of the British Empire"), however this genocide against Sikhs remains a black mark against post independent India and the window of opportunity to give Sikhs justice is closing very quickly. The world is watching India as it steps up to its rightful place as a world power; I just hope it will do the right thing for a community which has always defended India and made it strong. #1984, #Sikhgenocide #neverforget1984

Fireworks were banned in Delhi during Diljit Dosanjh's concert 4 days before Diwali, weren't they? Or does everyone just wait with open mouths for Diwali to target? Governments have the whole year to work on fighting pollution, but what happens? Firecrackers are banned just two months before Diwali, water sprinklers are deployed to fight air pollution, and 'Go Green' campaigns are launched, but only for Diwali's four days, what about afterward? I want to tell all state governments: "Stop your dirty thoughts and politics, and start working genuinely. #HappyDiwali
The skies of #Delhi were lit as people defied the ban on #firecrackers to celebrate #Diwali in the national capital. The city's 24-hour average #AirQuality index (AQI) was recorded at 327 at 9 PM Read more | Link in comments

Flashback to November 2018 when I was crowned Ms Pretoria-Tshwane 2019 1st Princess. Growing up as a kid the two most far-fetched things somebody could probably tell me were: 'One day you will be speaking on stages and getting paid for it' and 'One day you will compete in a beauty pageant and crowned a Princess'. Firstly I was terribly shy and despised speaking in front of people. Secondly I was the biggest tomboy. I didn't play with dolls, I didn't wear dresses, I didn't dream of wedding dresses and having babies. Instead I was always outside, doing sport, riding my BMX and competing against the boys playing rugby and cricket. Today as an adult I am still a jeans and tekkies girl. I will rather spend 30 minutes more on my morning run than doing my make-up and my hair (although I do enjoy the occassional dressing up events). That is being me - authentic, unique and 100% committed to becoming the best version of myself. Will I ever participate in a beauty pageant again? Probably not (but I also learned never to say never). It tought me to be out of my comfort zone and still excel in what I do. It taught me who I am not. For you to truly know who you are, you also need to know who you are not. Go out and do those far-fetched things. In everything you do, there are lessons to learn and opportunities to grow. #personalgrowth #leadershipdevelopment #authentic #bestversionofyourself
