Good speech form Wes Streeting at the #LabourConference24 But unless it's understood that 80% of health outcomes are determined by social determinants, non-medical factors, we will not have a healthy nation and healthy economy. Factors that include: Education Employment Income Housing Access to quality green spaces, air & water Food security Really change requires transitioning to a #wellbeingeconomy #ukpolitics #NHS #socialcare

I couldn't agree more with the emphasis on worker participation in safety and health programs. From my experience, one of the most crucial aspects of building a successful safety culture is truly understanding the diverse backgrounds and experiences that each worker brings to the table. It’s easy to assume that the best ideas will come from what we already know, but in reality, it’s the collective knowledge of the team that makes all the difference. For me, creating a robust safety culture starts with getting to know each employee personally. By building trust and understanding their unique perspectives, I can leverage their valuable insights and real-world experiences. Safety isn’t just about one person’s ideas—it’s about fostering a collaborative effort where everyone is committed to ensuring the well-being of the entire team. The more we tap into the diverse experiences of our workforce, the more effective our safety programs become.
🏈 No need for a Hail Mary pass when you’ve removed the barriers to worker participation. Make sure to involve all workers, especially those from differing backgrounds or those who rarely speak up. Worker participation is vital to the success of your safety and health programs. Learn more ➡️ https://bit.ly/3XTkPBh #SafeAndSoundAtWork

There are thousands of health care workers on PEI, and they play a crucial role in the health and well-being of Islanders. Health care workers face many hazards in their workplace such as using sharp equipment or needlesticks, dealing with violence in the workplace, and patient handling. Other than these industry-specific hazards, health care workers can face more common ones such as slips, trips and falls, working alone, chemicals, infectious diseases and more. The WCB is committed to making sure health care workers are safe at work. Learn more about safety in health care ➡ https://bit.ly/3quIsC0 #safetymatters #pei

Let's talk about something near and dear to my heart: Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). We all know that access to quality healthcare is crucial, but did you know that factors like food security, transportation, and housing play a massive role in shaping our well-being too? Food Security: Access to nutritious food isn't just about filling our bellies; it's about fueling our bodies with the essential nutrients they need to thrive. Yet, millions face food insecurity every day, impacting their health and quality of life. Transportation: Ever missed a doctor's appointment because you couldn't get there? Transportation barriers can prevent individuals from accessing crucial healthcare services, leading to missed diagnoses and untreated conditions. Housing Security: Home is where the heart is, but it's also where our health begins. Stable housing provides the foundation for good health, offering safety, security, and a place to heal and rest. Addressing these social determinants isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-do for building healthier, more equitable communities. By tackling food insecurity, improving transportation options, and ensuring housing stability, we can make strides towards a healthier future for all. Let’s work together to address these critical issues. Together, we can create positive change and build a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #SDOH #PatientEngagement #Reimbursement #SocialWork #CaseManagement
