Our Scholarship alumni Marek Kuzminski was recently nominated as a Danish Design Award finalist in the Young Ideas Category 2024. Marek was nominated for his project HandsUp, which was also the project for which he received a Bevica Scholarship Programme grant in 2023. HandsUp allows children to design and 3D print their own “super-power” prostheses, boosting self-confidence and turning disability into a source of strength. 🦸 🦾 Read more about the project here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dTwnzj4c Marek has just embarked on his Scholarship-funded research tour of India, where he will continue his investigation into how the active involvement of children with congenital upper limb differences in the design of their prosthetic devices contribute to their psychological well-being. Safe travels to you Marek – we look forward to following your work in years to come. Read more about the Bevica Scholarship Programme at 👉 www.bevicascholarship.dk.

I'm humbled to share the pilot launch of the Bioengineering Sports Lab experience at the Linda Vista Innovation Center! This innovative program allowed students to explore STEAM through hands-on activities aligned with the RIASEC model, opening their eyes to diverse career possibilities in bioengineering and beyond. Students from Chula Vista Elementary School District participated in activities where they assembled robotic hand prototypes, investigated muscle anatomy in a timed challenge, designed biomechanics posters, empathized with the societal impact of 3D-printed prosthetics, pitched innovative bioengineering ideas, and assembled skeletal models. This hands-on, career-focused program was designed to help students connect STEM concepts to real-world applications, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. I am grateful for the inspiration and idea that Arnel Aguinaldo and his team at PLNU Biomechanics Lab created about a year ago. 🎉 Special thanks to my team: Matthew R. Tessier, Ed.D. || Dr. Alicia Gallegos Butters || Pamela Rabin|| Carrie Lane || Jessica Sierra || Christina D. || Bryan Glasrud || Jane Schlosberg A heartfelt shoutout to Carrie Lane for her extraordinary investment in 3D-printed bionic hands, a true highlight of this lab experience! Thank you to Heath Bell for creating a welcome video for our students—they absolutely loved it! 💬 Excited about the future of STEAM careers? Let’s connect to bring this innovative experience to your students! I could NOT be more pumped for the work, design and growth Black Boys in Tech, Families Forward and the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative (University of Cincinnati, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services at the University of Cincinnati) are investing and building as we works towards a holistic, engaging, and cross curricula-focused, long term STEM continuum and after school programs into Cincinnati’s K12 schools. I visited Withrow High School (Cincinnati Public Schools) and the project they are working on is incredible. This was the first day of their final project for the year. We will continue working on this over the last 1.5 months of school, as these students apply: 1.) Critical thinking and planning skills related to today’s real life needs for our growing tech-focused future 2.) Utilizing and implementing the Scientific method and exploration (trial and error) strategies to problem solve and deliver successfully based on the scenario they picked and the step-by-step process 3.) Building and flying of their drones, accompanied by eventual 3D printing components to accompany their drone creation objective It is pretty wonderful to be a part of this team pursuing, implementing and designing equitable, exciting, and crucial opportunities to enable real equitable access and bright futures for ALL students! #STEM #Cincinnati #UniversityofCincinnati #TechClubs #BBIT #GCSC #CurriculumDesign #Education #Equity

“I think invention education empowers young people to see themselves as creators of solutions, not just consumers of knowledge,” says student inventor Jeanelle Dao. Inspired to create a solution to her grandfather’s struggle with opening doors due to arthritis, she developed CONDUITS (Controlling Doors Using Interface Technology with Steps) – a wireless mat that unlocks a deadbolt in response to a specific set of foot taps. Read her interview to learn more about Jeanelle’s invention journey, which started with a middle-school science fair and led to a national STEM competition: https://lnkd.in/eQhZHNr9 #InventionEducation #InventEd #Innovation #STEM #STEMLearning #STEMEducation

𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒍 =============== Immensely proud to share that my 16yo son, Mrunmay is part of the winner of prestigious “Inspire Award” at the FTC national championship organised by FIRST Tech Challenge India held in Goa last month. This award is given to the team who has demonstrated all round performance, not just in robotics, but also in community outreach, promoting STEM-D (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Design) amongst the students community. The team is achieving this by working with few schools to teach them basics and also including some of the underprivileged girls in their team. This team is slated to participate in the international competition to be held at Houston, TX in the month of April. The team ‘Horcruxes 2.0’ 🪄🧙♂️ includes 3 girl participants who are 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭. Parents of these young girls are not in a position to afford the trip to the US for this participation and hence Team ‘Horcruxes 2.0’ has launched a 𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒓 on Milaap.org. This is a sincere appeal to all my connections and their network to spread the word and contribute in whatever manner to help these kids participate in the competition. This will also build their own confidence that they are in the society that supports talent and help them dream big. https://lnkd.in/diu9UiGB If you can contribute from your corporate funds, please reach out to me and we will facilitate the same. We are also offering branding/marketing opportunity based on the interest. Do reach out. Note: We have verified the profiles of the girls and their income levels and based on that have started the fund raiser. Contribute generously!! Tomorrow Saturday 16 November I am speaking for the ICADE 2024 Tsinghua International Conference on Art & Design Education in Milano, on behalf of Cumulus Association Thank you to Eija Salmi FRSA for making this possible! 700 years ago, Marco Polo set out on a long journey with his imagination of the East, exploring new dimensions of the world beyond the geographic boundaries. "Imagination" has always been the driving force for human exploration of the unknown. 700 years later, AI has greatly expanded the boundaries of human cognition and ability. Hence, how can the new dimensions beyond the boundaries be imagined? The 2024 Tsinghua International Conference on Art and Design Education (ICADE 2024), held in Milan, Italy, aims to bring together cutting-edge ideas from the global education, academic, and industrial sectors to explore how art and design education can better stimulate students’ imagination and boldly explore the infinite possibilities of unknown fields in the era of AI. With the power of art and design, the conference seeks to construct new dimensions of multidisciplinary cross-innovation for the future.
