Today, my work in advocating for disability inclusion and inclusive education took me to Kamariny Primary School. Notice from the sample answers to some questions posed how there is still a considerable gap in instilling the knowledge needed for teachers to embrace inclusion. Most of them still refer to individuals without disabilities as 'normal'. This language could perpetuate the harmful notion that those with disabilities are abnormal, fostering exclusion. Education is essential in addressing this. Teachers must be aware of the diverse needs of students, including those with specific learning difficulties. It is crucial to promote disability inclusive language and understanding in our learning environments. By educating and raising awareness, we can create a more inclusive and respectful atmosphere for all students, regardless of their abilities. #inclusiveeducation #inclusionmatters #disabilityinclusion

It is both concerning and disheartening to see how issues of disability inclusion get lost within wider education inclusion and equality debates. Here at the #CSW68 European Union side event, I draw on the work of Cambridge Network for Disability and Education Research (CaNDER) members Prof. Nidhi Singal and Dr Laraib Niaz focusing on girls with disabilities to again highlight the need to specifically forefront disability in education planning, policies and practices. ♿ Education for children with disabilities is crucial for their growth and development. It is a fundamental #humanright that should be upheld worldwide! 📚 Every #child deserves the opportunity to learn and reach their full potential, regardless of any challenges they may face. When children with #disabilities are included in mainstream educational settings, they have the opportunity to develop essential skills, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. 🏫 Inclusive #education fosters empathy, understanding, and acceptance among all students, promoting a culture of #diversity and respect. 🌍 In #Lebanon and worldwide, efforts to enhance education for #children with disabilities should be a priority, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to society, regardless of their abilities! #DisabilitiesRights #EducationForAll #Equality #Empowerment #GobalGoals #SDG4 #lebaneseACT

Education is a powerful tool that shapes lives, builds communities, and fosters inclusion. At the heart of progress is the belief that everyone deserves access to learning opportunities tailored to their unique strengths. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) laid the foundation for inclusive education, reminding us of the transformative impact of advocacy and collaboration. At Amplify, we carry this vision forward by creating meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. By fostering a workplace built on understanding, support, and empowerment, we celebrate each individual's unique talents, proving that inclusion isn't just an educational goal—it's a lifelong commitment. Together, we're amplifying potential every day. 💙 #NationalSpecialEducationDay #InclusiveWorkplaces #AmplifyInclusion #DisabilityAdvocacy #EmpowermentMatters #AccessibilityForAll

We’re just under 3 weeks away from our book launch “Inaccessible Access Rethinking Disability Inclusion in Academic Knowledge Creation” – but you might be wondering- what is inaccessible access? So I thought I would share a preview- an excerpt from the preface (pictured with alt text). Here, I suggest that "Inaccessible access" includes situations where someone may be physically included in a space, like a university lecture, yet they don’t feel fully present or engaged because their experience is so different from other people. The implication is that we need not only to focus on getting disabled people into shared spaces, but also on the experience they have when in them. Otherwise, we fall short of true access- we risk inaccessible access. First step to combat this in academia is to listen to disabled students and staff and make space to include them in planning and decision-making efforts. Also, while we discuss disability in HEIs in the book, we need to ensure we move past inaccessible access in academia for all groups- (e.g., ensuring international students have the same experience as UK students, for example, through efforts like decolonising the curriculum)

Many disabilities are not visually discernible. In fact, the majority of disabilities are non-apparent. One significant aspect of disability is related to gender, as there is a consistent gender gap in SEN identification at primary and secondary schools. Girls and young teens with disabilities are typically less likely to be identified, to be diagnosed, and are more marginalized than boys and young teens with disabilities. As educators, it is crucial for us to be aware of and attuned to the needs of our students. We must remember that not all disabilities are immediately apparent, and by incorporating the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into our educational planning, we can create inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning environments for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eE65FJVK https://lnkd.in/eirGHhJD https://lnkd.in/eBcfasSe https://lnkd.in/eqW6CsXQ https://lnkd.in/edGrqm_P https://lnkd.in/e47ZPQi9 #InclusionMatters #DisabilityAwareness #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #EquityAndInclusion #UDL #InternationalBaccalaureate
