Universities UK’s Post

Universities UK reposted this

🎄 12 days of UUKi Christmas: day 12! 🎄 Welcome to the final day of our #12DaysOfUUKiChristmas series, where we've been looking back at 2024 and celebrating the highlights from this year in international higher education. 📅 In October, Universities UK published our blueprint for the sector, 'Opportunity, growth and partnership: a blueprint for change', which sets out a package of reform that aims to create a UK university sector that is better in ten years’ time than it is today. Chapter 5 of the blueprint, 'Global reach, reputation and impact', addresses international collaboration and engagement in higher education. In this chapter, we recommend the creation of a new global strategy for universities, underpinned by a new compact (agreement) between the sector and government to ensure stable and sustainable growth in international student numbers. 📈 Find out more about this chapter at the link in the comments below. 🎉 And that’s a wrap on our 12 days of UUKi Christmas! Thank you for joining us for our look back at 2024. Swipe ➡️ to see the full 12 days of highlights. Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to build on the progress made this year to support and strengthen UK universities in the international higher education landscape. See you there!

Is it just me or is anyone else finding Universities UK International’s celebrations a little distasteful, as 10,000 university employees are about to loose their jobs, primarily due to a reduction in #internationalstudents? To date 83 are carrying out redundancies & restructuring, including: University of Aberdeen University of Brighton Coventry University The University of Edinburgh University of Essex Goldsmiths, University of London University of Kent University of Lincoln University of Portsmouth Royal Holloway, University of London University of Surrey Swansea University University of York, some of which are setting off bruising industrial disputes. One has to wonder what the Office for Students #ofs (the #highereducation regulator) has been doing & how much #UUK know about the financial jeopardy the UK sector was facing? Joerg Fliege has helpfully summarised the extent of financial challenge felt by UK #highereducation. Many thanks Joerg! Be sure to refer to comments for Parts 2 & 3.
