The ProtAct-Us kick-off meeting officially takes place this week. In the transport sector, the vision zero describes the EU's goal of reducing the number of seriously injured and road deaths to zero. In a constantly changing mobility environment, which is currently characterised in particular by high levels of automation, innovative vehicle concepts and a high number of vulnerable road users (VRU), ensuring the safety of everyone involved is a major challenge. The Institute of Automotive Engineering (ika) and the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen University, together with other research and industrial partners from Europe, have been awarded a grant for the EU project "ProtAct-Us". Last week during HANNOVER MESSE, we had the pleasure to unveil our new white paper "Accelerating battery cell development", which we wrote with our partner RWTH Aachen University. 🐌💸 As PEM Director Professor Achim Kampker says, the european battery industry has a snail's pace and price problems: "The processes for developing and manufacturing new battery cells are still too slow and the costs too high. We must innovate while catching up." 🔋 In this study, our experts explore battery cell engineering challenges and potentials, proposing an improved development approach to streamline time-to-market. They outline the importance of a digital end-to-end toolchain to bolster cell development. Connecting theoretical and AI predictions to the process of synthesis is one of the most pressing problems in materials science today. Thanks to the leadership of my colleagues Amalie Trewartha and Steven Torrisi, and the hard work of our Comms and AMDD teams, TRI is announcing SARC, a DARPA-style challenge on connecting theoretical predictions to synthesis procedures. It's a unique opportunity to collaborate with TRI and constructively compete with other materials research community members to help solve the problem of predictive inorganic synthesis.
