We set standards globally through our research in 2024. Here’s just a few highlights 👇 🧠 £11m awarded for a our addiction & mental health research centre. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research will provide world-leading targeted research, focusing on those often hidden or excluded from treatment, exploring tangible solutions to complex problems. 🔬 Pioneered the first ever guidelines for stem cell based embryo use. We were part of a major new project led by the University of Cambridge and Progress Educational Trust to create the first ever UK guidelines for the generation and use of stem cell-based embryo models in research. 🫶 Tackling experiences of poverty in Hull. Academics worked to connect people experiencing poverty with civic leaders, building trusted long-term relationships to address poverty. The Hull Poverty Truth Commission led to improvements in cost of living, access to healthcare, and navigating systems and services. 🌊 Leading the way to resilient coastal communities. Part of a £14.8M investment in place-based research projects aiming to enhance resilience, wellbeing and sustainability across the UK, the £2m COAST-R network, led by the Uni of Hull, aims to generate knowledge, action and resilience for UK coastal communities and seas. 🧑🤝🧑 Improving support for survivors of modern slavery. We’re working together with The Salvation Army to prevent re-trafficking and help survivors reintegrate and move forward with their lives. 🌬️ Energising the UK’s offshore wind ambitions. The award of £5.8m will enable us to lead a new research centre with Durham University, Loughborough University, and The University of Sheffield, advancing cutting-edge solutions to offshore wind challenges and driving the UK’s transition to net zero. 🍽️ Helping Wren Kitchens accelerate their journey to net-zero. Our knowledge exchange with Wren Kitchens enabled them to gain full transparency of their supply chain through carbon process mapping, helping them and their customers make more sustainable choices. 🦊 City life is making foxes bolder. Researchers found that while urban foxes were more confident, this didn’t necessarily translate to intelligence. A further study found that despite their bold behaviour, 83% of the public still viewed them in a positive light. So, what’s next? In 2025, we’ll be continuing to lead the way. Keep your eyes on our accounts for some exciting announcements! 👀
