A Wake-Up Call to the African Union What is happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo is completely unacceptable and should serve as a wake-up call to the African Union. To the African authorities, I ask: When will you wake up and put an end to this chaos? When will you unite the continent and set aside personal and political egos? What more will it take to realize that a united Africa is the key to ending rebellions and conflicts across the continent? If Africa were truly united, a federal army could have swiftly crushed any rebellion, and no insurgent group would find safe havens in neighboring countries to launch attacks. The root cause of these conflicts is the vast wealth of strategic natural resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite being the richest continent in terms of resources, African leaders continue to travel the world begging for aid instead of focusing on unity and true development. I often wonder what has happened to the African people. It pains me to say this, but it seems we have become incapable of making sound decisions and choosing the right path. In this context, I cannot entirely blame former U.S. President Donald Trump for his controversial remarks about African countries. I challenge African leaders to prove him wrong by taking decisive action toward unity and progress. It is truly disheartening. Africans, if we do not wake up now, there will be an Africa without Africans. Others will come and enjoy the beauty and wealth of this great continent while we remain bystanders in our own land. Wake up before it is too late. https://lnkd.in/dBbRpW9F

Football can be a powerful tool for #peace building, it is essential to acknowledge that it is not a panacea. To achieve sustainable peace, a comprehensive approach is necessary, addressing the root causes of conflict and implementing long-term solutions. By combining football with other peace building initiatives, such as education, economic empowerment, and social justice, we can create a brighter future for the Rohingya community. Based on that BRAC Community Based Protection (#Community_Group) organized a football tournament to promote and enforce fair play and sportsmanship among players and spectators through clear rules and regulations. And engaged youth in sports to empower them, providing them with opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and skill development. The tournament can serve as a platform for peaceful conflict resolution, as participants learn to resolve disputes through dialogue and compromise.

Australia's foreign aid has fallen to just 0.68% of the federal budget, a significant decrease from previous years. Despite this, many Australians believe that a significantly larger portion of the budget is allocated to international aid. A recent Redbridge survey reveals that one in four people think over 3% of the budget goes to foreign aid, and over half of the respondents overestimated budget spending. Learn more about the current state of Australia’s foreign aid and the ongoing push for increased support via our #SaferWorldForAll campaign.

In light of the ongoing conflict, the LFA announced the postponement to prioritize the safety and well-being of players and fans. The decision comes just days after the commencement of the Lebanese Premier League, which was meant to kick off the 2024-2025 season. With match day two scheduled for September 27 to 29 now on hold, the league’s future remains uncertain. The situation is dire, with the UNHCR reporting tens of thousands of displaced individuals as the humanitarian crisis deepens. The postponement reflects not just a response to the current violence but also a broader call for peace and stability in Lebanon and the region. As the conflict in Lebanon escalates, domestic football competitions, including those in Palestine, are severely impacted, underlining the far-reaching consequences of war on sports and community life. It's really time that we see the world for what it is and to want, demand and act for a better one. When we talk about rights, in 'theory' we mean a moral or legal entitlement to have or be able to do something. When we talk about human rights, in 'theory' we mean a set of principles concerned with equality and fairness. When we talk about equality in 'theory' we mean recognising that, as human beings, we all have the same value. But let's own it. There is no equality really if your definition of equality is based on a superiority complex of what is right and wrong, acceptable or unacceptable. Let's stop pretending. It's exhausting to keep up a narrative that reflects nothing of our reality. We have one of the most powerful nations in the world defining the rights of Muslim women differently based on I dare say the patriarchal narrative of a few shitty men and an ignorance of a faith that is so much more that what you wear on your head. This is the host nation promoting on their website: "The three values of olympism are excellence, RESPECT and friendship. They constitute the foundation on which the olympic movement builds its activities to promote sport, CULTURE and education with a view to building a better world". Beliefs aside, if this were any other group of women we would be outraged. We'd have a resurgence of #meetoo. We would talk about the long and hard fight of feminism. We would talk about women not being dictated to by men in power. But the reality is that even in our fight for women's rights there is no equality. Their is no nuanced and sophisticated conversation of what 'equity' means. Our rights as women are upheld when we chose and want to wear 'a little' because that is what is deemed acceptable to the empires of the world. The colonialist structures in which we live which define how we should look and sound. In the same breath we have no hesitation to turn our backs on that same right 'to wear alot'. You may say, hey we have lots of women in hijab in the workplace and in positions of power. Whatever do you mean? To which I would tell you to open your eyes, look around and see where the glass ceilings are and where the ceilings are not so glass. You only have to scratch the surface to see that our tokenism is rife. Inequality is entrenched and ignorance is critical to maintaining this 'progressive' facades. There is nothing progressive about oppression. So let's dial down the delusion and demand a different conversation. France's decision to enforce a hijab ban for its athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics is deeply concerning. As 2016 U.S. Olympic fencing medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad highlighted, debates around Muslim head coverings in sports are rooted in racism and Islamophobia. This policy not only infringes on religious freedoms but also perpetuates discrimination. We must stand in solidarity with Muslim athletes and advocate for their right to compete without compromising their faith. 🌍✊🏽 #LeadingWhileMuslim #DEI #Inclusion #EndIslamophobia #LetThemPlay

Compelling evidence that Russians are behind the Channel3 website that illegally named the perpetrator and tried to stoke the islamophobia that the EDL exploited. We should expect and prepare for severe interference from external forces aiming to enflame situations in the UK either from state actors or just those looking for millions of views. The Times Radio report on Russia’s alleged meddling in the Merseyside stabbing incident further emphasizes the international dimension of social interference. The report highlights how “foreign influence can exacerbate local conflicts, creating a more volatile and unpredictable environment for both the community and the police.” #CrisisManagement #CommunityResilience #SocialInterference #Policing #SecurityServices #IncidentManagement
