I WAS TOTALLY OUT OF LINE... AND WRONG! The benefit of having a full-time videographer and putting out independently edited vlogs… (that’s right, we only omit confidential / boring footage)… Is that you get a front row seat to your shortcomings. As a founder, your job (first) is to create products that your customers love. Second, it’s to create products you’re proud of. In an ideal world, they're one and the same. BUT… we don’t live in an ideal world. SO... here you get to see emotion get in the way of objective, data-led decision making that puts our customer at the core. I’m not proud of how I acted here. But I am grateful for having Marisa Poster to talk some sense into me... And the opportunity to grow as a leader. None of us is perfect. So let's not pretend we are on LinkedIn. Many people live life behind the scenes. How do I know? Because I used to be one and secondly, clients tell me about it. And that’s all good. There’s nothing wrong working behind the scenes but most people aspire to be recognized and be in the spotlight for various reasons. Who wouldn’t want that? In a previous life i was a film producer, where my job was never really in the spotlight but in many ways i later discovered, i was. It’s a producers job to “make something come to life” like an idea, a script, a story a vision etc. together with an army of exceptional talent to create magic. It’s really no different to what I do now. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that you helped engineer a massive project from scratch, put in the work and sleepless nights that made it possible for people to see, enjoy and experience. Now as a coach, in many ways I kind of do the same thing behind the scenes helping clients transform into leaders of their own. What have you done today to make you feel proud? This came up yesterday when talking to a client & we both instantly started to sing M People & had Heather Small in the room with us. Dawn Owen you also joined the party in my head. This is what happens when you have a coach as a trusted confident they pop up in your head & on your shoulder ALL the time....... These were also the words my client shared with me as she shared her success of how she sometimes feels relieved when a task is completed to on that day feeling proud and I was there as her biggest cheerleader because she had implemented the ideas she had & was in flow enjoying the experience & being efficient! 🧡 I've woken up this morning still thinking about this client & the fabulous memories, insight & wisdom she has provided for me! The beauty of coaching when the relationship is spot on means that the knowledge, wisdom & insight is equally shared - who knew? (I say this ALL the time when working with my coach, Dawn) So, this was the theme song when I worked at Nationwide at a conference I went to which fit perfectly with their brand. I was 27 years old & reaching a crossroads in my leadership role. The feedback I was receiving at the time was "PRIDE runs through your body & if you are cut in two it will bleed out of your body........ " so what did it stand for? Putting Members First Rising to the Challenge Inspiring Confidence Delivering Best Value Exceeding Expectations It's funny how brands stay with you because I would like to think that this is how I run my own business now although I use the strap line "Dream, Believe, Achieve & Make it Happen". Although upon reflection maybe it should be "Inspire, Ignite & Empower" As I think of my flame I've now got Alicia Keys "This girl is on fire" singing in my head. Just finished watching the Martha Stewart documentary on Netflix, and I’m feeling incredibly inspired.. One thing that struck me about Martha’s journey is her “Do It” attitude and how much of a doer she is till today. From the very beginning, she knew exactly what she wanted, and she wasn’t afraid to work relentlessly to make it happen. Her drive, her poise, and her unapologetic pursuit of her dreams is a powerful reminder that sometimes, success comes down to just showing up and doing the work…again and again. In an era where it’s easy to overthink, Martha’s story reminds us of the importance of execution. Ideas are great, but it’s the doing that truly counts. Taking a page from Martha’s playbook and going after what we want with passion, resilience, and a bit of that ‘don’t give a damn’ attitude is something we should all strive to replicate. Since the last mini series went off so well (questionable engagement)... I figured i'd do another, equally sarcastic but nonetheless important take on another popular topic. Since everyone seems (italicised) to be more than stoked with chasing their career and being dedicated to the hustle, far more than going outside and looking at the sky for a while, here's the next in a series of short rambles. The Relatable Hero in Business: A look at Marlin (Father of Nemo), The Unsung Hero of Dedication and Commitment. In The Walt Disney Company's Finding Nemo, Marlin embarks on a journey filled with challenges to find his son, Nemo. (poor guy just wanted to touch the butt) This story is more than just an adventure; it’s a powerful metaphor for the dedication and commitment required in business. Marlin’s unwavering determination reflects the mindset needed to navigate complex business environments, and indeed the ocean. In the face of uncertainty, his journey teaches us that leadership requires not just vision, but also the courage to pursue that vision relentlessly, despite obstacles (sharks, friends with short term memory loss etc etc). Nightmare just trying to find your kids in the supermarket, I think? I don't have kids, but must be a pain. Almost like looking for the lost sock in the tumble dryer only to find its been eaten by the laundry goblin. Stayed tuned for the next part.

Six months ago today, I became a Moth StorySLAM Champion. When I took the stage that night, I thought I was just crossing an item off my bucket list. I had no idea how much my life was about to change. I stepped into a new identity that night. Something deep within me shifted. I embraced my calling as a storyteller in a new, deeper way. My business, my relationships, and my personal journey of healing and growth have all exploded with new possibilities. When's the last time you saw an ad for a Lamborghini? When you know your value, you don't advertise to those who can't afford you. So stop acting like and advertising to the crowd you don't want to be a part of. Start acting like the crowd you want to join. You want to be wealthy? Stop acting like a broke person. You want to be a leader? Stop acting like a follower. Don't lower your standards and cheapen yourself to fit in to the group you don't want to stay in.
