The Dutch power grid is becoming increasingly overloaded, affecting households and delaying the electrification of heavy industry. Today’s power cables are also not physically capable of transmitting such high loads. At TU Delft, they are investigating an important solution: #energyhubs. An energy hub is a smart, decentralised #energysystem that coordinates the generation, consumption, storage and conversion of different energy carriers within a specific area – whether it be a home, a neighbourhood or an industrial site. By deploying energy hubs, the generation, transmission, and use of #renewableenergy, such as #wind and #solar, can be accelerated in sectors still reliant on gas. They promote energy savings, relieve and strengthen the energy grid, and even contribute to social cohesion within communities. The Ruisdael Observatory can offer critical atmospheric and climate data that enhances the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy generation. By understanding localised weather patterns and long-term climate trends, Ruisdael can help energy hubs optimise power generation and anticipate fluctuations in energy use. 🌞 News from Sun4All pilot in Coeur de Savoie! 🌍 In March, our partner the French National Solar Energy Institute (INES - Institut National de l'Energie Solaire) hosted a stimulating study visit, delving into the realm of renewable energy and combating energy poverty. The event convened a dynamic assembly of European project partners, Sun4All Community of Practice members, and local community representatives. Their shared goal? To exchange insights, best practices, and innovative strategies for advancing renewable energy initiatives, particularly focusing on photovoltaic solar power. At the heart of our discussions were the remarkable solar endeavours undertaken by the Communauté de communes Cœur de Savoie, within the framework of the Sun4All project. Highlights included immersive visits to the Chavanne photovoltaic power plant and enlightening sessions at the CEA laboratories at INES.
