STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. **Orange Day: Together Against Violence** Each year on November 25th, we observe #OrangeDay to raise awareness about the ongoing violence against women and girls worldwide. This day marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign initiated by UN Women. **Why Orange?** The color orange symbolizes a bright future free from violence and stands for #hope and #solidarity. It’s a color that grabs attention and reminds us that we must stand united against all forms of violence. **Our Message: Stop Violence Against Women** Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally. From physical violence to psychological abuse, economic to sexual violence—it’s time we loudly and clearly say: Enough is enough. **A Personal Message:** As a parent, I wish for my daughter to grow up in a world where she is free from fear and violence. At 5.30pm today we will be taking to the streets of Ballarat to walk against gendered violence as part of the 16 days of activism. With 89 women killed this year so far, overwhelming by men, we all need to take action. Even if you can't attend an event during 16 days of activism, there are things you can do in your every day life to prevent violence against women. * Call out sexism * Learn the warning signs of domestic and family violence, there's so much more in addition to the physical violence * Learn how to support someone who is a victim survivor * Talk! Talk about gendered violence with your family, friends, colleagues. Share on social media * Enusre your workplace policies support victim survivors * Be aware that people who use violence can use the workplace to help them use violence As a society, we all need this violence to stop.

No Excuses! Today is the 2nd day of this campaign to stop violence against women and girls. Today I want to talk about excuses we like to make when we talk about ending violence against women and girls. The chief of them is the argument that men and boys are also victims of abuse. No one disbelieves this reality, men and boys also are victims of GBV but women and girls are more disproportionately affected. Thomas Dye (1972) believed that the decision not to make a decision by a government is a public policy. In the same vein, the decision to put up an argument that we balance GBV that it affects men also at this time of this activism is an excuse to water down the effect of GBV on women and girls. Today, resist the urge to bring an argument against or to divert the focus on ending violence against women. Let there be no excuse. International Day for the Elimation of Violence Against Women Day Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life. For at least 51,100 women in 2023, the cycle of gender-based violence ended with one final and brutal act—their murder by partners and family members. That means a woman was killed every 10 minutes. #16Days of activism is the UN Women’s annual global campaign against gender-based violence. This year's theme is #NoExcuse as there is never any reason for violence against women and girls (#VAWG). Within recent years, violence against women and girls has become a point of conversation across society. It refers to crimes of violence that are disproportionately perpetrated by men against women and girls and is deeply linked to women’s inequality. It includes rape and other sexual offences, stalking, domestic abuse, 'honour’-based abuse, as well as many others. It was declared a ‘national emergency’ as an estimated two million women a year are victims of male violence. Together, we can help put an end to gender-based violence. #GenderEquality
