On International Women’s Day, let’s shine a light on the need for inclusivity in Women’s Health and what that actually means.
Happy International Women’s Day! 🌟 This year's theme, "Inspire Inclusivity", resonates deeply with us as healthcare communicators. In 2024, there's still much work to be done to ensure that healthcare truly reflects the diversity of the community it serves. Women make up 51% of the population, yet they often spend larger proportions of their lives dealing with ill health and disability. Despite this, women-specific issues like menopause and miscarriage still don't receive enough focus, while women’s lack of representation in clinical trials means that not enough is known about conditions that primarily affect women, or affect women more than men. That's why inclusivity in healthcare remains essential. This IWD, we reached out to some of the inspirational women in our network, including Yitka Graham, Jessica Preshaw, Nicola Ramshaw and Jane DeVille-Almond, to ask what true inclusivity in women’s health looks like to them. Their responses are just the tip of the iceberg. What would greater inclusivity look like in women's healthcare to you? Tell us in the comments below! 👇 #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2024 #InspireInclusivity #WomensHealth

🌍 In many parts of the world, women face greater barriers to accessing healthcare compared to men. This disparity is especially pronounced in low-income countries, where cultural practices and economic constraints limit women's health services. For instance, social norms may prioritize men's health needs over women's, leading to fewer resources being allocated for women's health. 💡 Economic constraints further exacerbate the problem. Women often have less access to financial resources and may be unable to afford healthcare services. This economic dependency makes it difficult for them to seek medical help when needed, resulting in untreated illnesses and higher mortality rates. 👩⚕️ Additionally, women in these regions may encounter significant challenges in reaching healthcare facilities. Geographic barriers, lack of transportation, and unsafe travel conditions can all deter women from seeking the care they need. In some cultures, women may also require permission from male family members to visit healthcare providers, further restricting their access. 📢 Addressing these barriers is crucial for improving women's health outcomes. Efforts should focus on increasing healthcare accessibility, providing financial support, and promoting gender equality in healthcare settings. Empowering women through education and community support can also help break down these barriers, ensuring that they receive the medical care they deserve. 🌺 By recognizing and addressing the unique challenges women face in accessing healthcare, we can work towards a more equitable and healthier world for all. #niqsfoundation #niqsf #wednesdayfact #HealthcareForAll #GenderEquality #WomenHealthMatters

As a woman physician, I observe that the privilege of medical practice is comparable for both genders. Trust is not influenced by gender as the doctor-patient relationship is void of external influence. However, women's participation in research is a personal choice, influenced by various factors such as motivation and reinforcement. Women must take greater control of their health and be motivated to participate in healthcare research. To encourage participation, women leaders should create forums that motivate and lead the charge for increased participation. Equality in data representation is essential. Policies should mandate that both women's and men's data are equally required for study approval, ensuring that women's health issues are thoroughly investigated. By serving on healthcare and research committees, women can ensure a comprehensive understanding of disparities and advocate for equal representation. To tackle the lack of gender-specific data in healthcare... #IWD24 #LinkedInNewsMiddleEast

Women are the backbone of the healthcare system. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 8 in every 10 healthcare workers are women. Since 2000, the number of full-time healthcare workers has doubled; 80 percent of those new workers are women. Women's History Month is a time when we not only honor and celebrate women within our community and across the world for their contributions, resilience, and compassion but also recognize the long, historical journey in pursuit of equality. At AbsoluteCare, we pledge to continue supporting and uplifting women--at work, in our communities, and beyond--recognizing their vital role in driving positive change and contributions to a better world. #womenshistorymonth #beyondmedicine

Women Speakers in Healthcare was created to try and address the ever present 'manel' at healthcare conferences. At it's heart is it connects women from across the healthcare sector to talk at events and pushes for diversity of representation, that may otherwise not have gender representation at conferences. The excuse of no women came forward to talk should not be allowed- plenty of women want to talk at conferences, and have the expertise to do talks, but are often not invited or even considered. Conferences play a vital role in role modelling what that specialty looks like, who is chosen to talk or chair sessions- with the old adage, you cannot be what you cannot see- women need to be front and centre to inspire the next generation of women healthcare leaders. #WomenSpeakersInHealthcare #DiversityInConferences #EndTheManel #HealthcareDiversity #WomenInHealthcareLeadership #VisibilityMatters #InclusiveHealthcare #RepresentationMatters #SpeakUpInHealth #GenderEqualityInMedicine #NoMoreManels #WomenHealthcareSpeakers #EmpowerHerVoice #FutureLeadersInHealth #InspiringWomenInMedicine #100wordproject #HLA
