#GreeningCities Draft Action Plan 🔝 In total 5 actions will help the partnership reach their objective of increasing #Green #Infrastructure in urban areas🌳 Let's zoom in on two Actions! Action 2️⃣ : Indicator System for Evaluating Urban Nature Plans 🌿 The Action will develop an indicator system that promotes comparability across EU Member States and local authorities to measure and monitor progress towards urban greening. It will include several thematic areas of assessment, a set of common mandatory and voluntary indicators, and will outline the methodology for their measurement. ➡ Currently, there's no standardized way to measure and compare urban greening efforts, making it hard to track progress and implement policies effectively. ➡ This project aims to fill that gap, supporting better policy decisions and enhancing urban biodiversity 🏙 🦋 Action 3️⃣ : Reaching Meaningful Urban Greening Targets 🌿 Urban areas are losing green spaces, essential for climate adaptation, biodiversity, and citizen well-being. The #EUBiodiversityStrategy and the proposed #NatureRestorationLaw highlight the need for urban greening, but many local authorities lack cohesive approaches and effective implementation strategies. The Action addresses the need for standardized guidelines and legislative support to enhance urban green spaces and green infrastructure. The Action will: ➡ provide guidelines to help national, regional, and local authorities meet their urban greening goals ➡ will share best practices, offer tips for developing Urban Nature Plans ➡ develop recommendations and promote the establishment of an EUwide legislative framework on urban green space to help stop the loss of green infrastructure promoting its steady increase in the future. Let's talk green infrastructure and stormwater management—it's more than just compliance, it's about securing our future! Highlighted in the article below, the recently released report "Pathways to Living Cities: A Policy and Governance Framework" demonstrates the significant benefits of green infrastructure in addressing urban stormwater challenges. This framework has revolutionized city planning across Canada by showcasing how elements like green roofs, rain gardens, and parks can rejuvenate urban environments. For professionals in stormwater management, this framework serves as a comprehensive guide. It outlines 17 effective strategies to seamlessly integrate green infrastructure into urban development, offering solutions to mitigate flooding, improve water quality, and foster biodiversity—all while promoting sustainable practices that benefit both communities and the environment. Cities such as Philadelphia have already experienced the advantages of green infrastructure, effectively managing stormwater runoff and alleviating pressure on sewer systems while enhancing overall environmental health. The article below explores how your city can leverage green infrastructure to create healthier, more resilient urban landscapes. https://buff.ly/3W87Qd7 #GreenInfrastructure #NPDES #NPDESTraining #NPDESTrainingInstitute #TrainingThatMatters #Stormwater #StormwaterManagement #StormwaterProfessionals #StormwaterTraining #MS4Training #MS4sMatter #WaterQuality
