🚋 Historical Legacy and Tram Manufacturing Škoda Transportation, rooted in a history that spans over a century, has been at the forefront of tram and train manufacturing. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, Škoda's association with trams dates back to 1922 when its components powered trams in Czech and Moravian cities, offering efficient urban transport over short to medium distances. 🏭 Plzeň's Role in Revitalizing Tram Production The decline of tram production in the Czech Republic in the late 20th century led to Škoda Plzeň's emergence as a key player. Starting in 1995, Škoda's subsidiary, Škoda Dopravní technika, embarked on the modernization of older Tatra T3 trams, marking a significant turning point as Škoda Plzeň transitioned into modern tram manufacturing. Simultaneously, Škoda established itself as a supplier of traction motors to major manufacturers. The introduction of the Astra prototype tram in 1997 marked the beginning of modern tram production in Plzeň. 🌍 Global Reach and Future Innovations Škoda Transportation's commitment to tram manufacturing led to its transformation into Škoda Transportation in 2004, solidifying its global presence. The new millennium witnessed the expansion of export capabilities and the successful delivery of innovative tram generations like Elektra and ForCity. Beyond the Czech borders, Škoda's trams found homes in various countries. Moreover, the company's foray into digital technologies and collaborations with partners on autonomous tram development demonstrates Škoda's commitment to shaping the future of public transportation. The success of Škoda trams is not only seen in numbers but also in the millions of kilometers covered on the streets of cities worldwide, underscoring their efficiency and reliability. #PublicTransport #InnovationInTransit #AutonomousTrams #PublicTransportation #UrbanMobility #TransportInnovation #CzechManufacturing #TramRevival #SustainableTransit #TransitTechnology #MobilitySolutions #GlobalManufacturing #FutureOfTransportation

The Driving force of Mobility If we want to travel from A to B sustainably, efficiently and safely in years to come, our mobility system will need a complete overhaul, Bart van Arem says. With partners from various disciplines, Van Arem is investigating what it takes to limit the number of cars in cities. Automated transport, such as self-driving cars, play a key role in the mobility scenarios for the future. The Netherlands should take a leaf out of Japan’s book, he says. “That country shows how technology can serve society.” Read all about it in my story of science: https://lnkd.in/gwUfaTrV

I have been accepted to present at the Department of Transport and Main Roads 2024 Engineering, Innovation, and Technology Forum to be held on the 20-22 August at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre! Hope to see you there - registrations are now open via the link below. https://lnkd.in/gD7b8pHP One of my 'Poster' presentations will be: TMR Transport Academic Partnership: E-Scooter Movement Data Analysis - exploring use of active transport facilities, travel speeds, helmet use and scooter types Abstract: E-mobility as a mode has seen a surge in popularity, with successful roll-outs of shared e-scooter and e-bike schemes across the state, together with uptake of private ownership. Queensland has been an innovator in the regulation of micro-mobility, exemplified by being the first state in Australia to adopt the nationally-agreed e-bike regulations. However, e-mobility road users are also vulnerable road users. TMR introduced a series of considered regulatory reforms in November 2022 following a roundtable on e-scooters with other agencies, local governments, industry and user groups. This changed some of the road and path facilities that e-scooters were permitted to be ridden on, amongst other measures, including the introduction of speed limit regulations for e-scooters. Beyond police reports, some observational studies and hospital records, there is little understanding of the speeds e-scooters are travelling, the overall compliance with speed limits and helmet wearing in Queensland cities, and the locations on the cross-section/roadway that riders are choosing. This presentation will detail the comparative analysis and determine both what current behaviour is, and if there has been change in behaviour between the two time periods, or emerging trends.

Research focused on cargo throughput in urban & regional environments. "Feeder Logistics"
1wThe "low-floor" trams, & others, offer a tremendous opportunity to generate fixed revenues, from a " Cargo-Parcel Feeder" service for the entire system, 24/7, reducing the time to breakeven, which can contribute massive positive multiplier effects, for communities, regions, & nations, & this is where the real value is. The "tram-link" can connect far upstream networks with low cost, high-speed, urban transfer-balance points, taking advantage of "line-balancing" strategies not available in any other logistics design. Required: (a) Refurbished/new cargo wagons & transfer-balance points, not part of passenger operations. (b) The Common Denominator: Standardized "Feeder RO-RO" carts/cages with RFID/IoT/AI options, for ease of handling linking all locations & vehicles, 24/7. Postal systems have "Feeder RO-RO" carts/cages. e.g. Varamis Rail, UK., VGF Flex Cargo Tram, Frankfurt, DE. Others.....
