🌍 Did you know that 50% of the world’s population lives in cities, which are responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions? A new article published by C40 Cities in collaboration with UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) addresses the urgent challenges of combating climate change in urban centers, highlighting that effective mitigation actions in this context become even more urgent and dependent on the participation of municipal-level actors. The article also presents research conducted by UN-Habitat on the commitments made by different countries, known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This research assesses how many countries have prioritized urban actions in their climate goals. The NDCs, established in 2015 with the signing of the Paris Agreement, are updated every five years with the aim of limiting warming to 1,5°C. Have you heard that climate resilience can be the ability to recover from potentially devastating climate-related occurrences such as floods and droughts. Typical methods of coping with these events appropriately might include: 1) Suitable responses to maintain relevant society and ecosystem function, 2) Increasing climate resilience by reducing the climate vulnerability of less fortunate people and their countries.
