Honored to have had David Jay, on the podcast. His episode on Trust in Tech directly derives from the insights he shares in his new book "Relationality". His insights have transformed the way I think about social structures, institutions, and community. Having known him has made me a better thinker, and community organizer. The world is lucky that his wisdom is now public. Purchase link, and pod episode in the comments!
It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m pleased to announce that my first book, Relationality is launching today! This journey started for me with a kind of heartbreak. As someone who has struggled with loneliness, I’ve witnessed again and again how people who build community are the key to providing paths out of it. Artistic communities are a path out of loneliness, so are social movements, so is the process of democracy if it’s done right. But all too often, the people who do this critical relational work go unrecognized and uncompensated. They burn out while the organizations around them give hollow platitudes about connection. I’ve seen this tragedy play out again and again in the organizations and movements I’ve been a part of, and have spent over a decade researching how to avoid it. If relationships matter, and almost everyone agrees that they do, then we should be able to invest in the people who build them. Relationality highlights the reasons why our organizations so often fail to invest in relationship and lays out a clear, scientifically grounded strategy for correcting that failure. If we do, if we start rewarding people who build relationship for the value that we create, then we can invite in a radically more resilient, innovative, joyful and democratic world. Relationality is published by North Atlantic Books and is available wherever books are sold. A link to learn more about the book and make a purchase is in the comments. #booklaunch #community #philanthropy #democracy #lonelinesscrisis

Looking for a simple way to start making your community more intentionally intergenerational? The Rule of Three is a lens that we can apply to our community activities to ensure we are expanding our reach and opportunity for connection, relationship, and discipleship beyond our regular age limitations. Simply put, the Rule of Three ensures that at least three generations are present in any given situation. https://lnkd.in/ee922UzE

Empowering Families Programme update : Participants are delving deeper into the intertwined realms of culture and communication. We recognised and explored the multiple cultures at play in the home - familial, youth, counter culture and societal norms. In many households, these various cultural influences intersect and interact, shaping the overall environment and influencing individual beliefs and behaviours. It's important to recognise and understand these dynamics, as they can impact communication, conflict resolution, and overall family dynamics. This week's lifework (because homework sounds too much like school work) involves exploring a vibrational audit, eliminating aspects that don't serve their vision. The aim is to confidently create a new familial culture aligned with their ideals and legacy. Through questions about values and examples, they unravel the intricate fabric shaping familial dynamics. The debate arose: which comes first, culture or communication? It was concluded they're mutually influential. This session highlights the interconnectedness of culture and communication, offering insights for transformative empowerment. I'm so proud of the participating families as they embark on a journey of growth, transcending barriers with grace, respect and compassion. Remember, we’re often taught to focus straight ahead, neglecting what's on our sides when we encounter new things. But occasionally, you discover groups engaged in activities that, while significant, rarely get mentioned beyond their immediate circles. Stumbling upon such communities can be quite enlightening. The diversity of what you find across the globe truly broadens your perspective. #Perspective
