Happy Saudi National Day! 🇸🇦 Last year I came in Saudi Arabia and first time celebrating Saudi national day on this occasion I wanna share with how Saudi Arabia unique and beautiful in the world. Here are some beautiful and unique things about Saudi Arabia: 1. Diverse Desert Landscapes: Saudi Arabia is home to vast deserts like the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter), the largest continuous sand desert in the world, with stunning, ever-shifting dunes. 2. Rich Cultural Heritage: The Kingdom is a cradle of Islamic civilization, boasting centuries-old traditions and historical sites, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Al-Hijr (Madain Salih), a Nabatean city. 3. Mecca and Medina: As the birthplace of Islam, Saudi Arabia holds two of the holiest cities in the religion. Millions of Muslims from around the world perform Hajj and Umrah, a spiritual journey of immense significance. 4. Vibrant Souks and Markets: Traditional souks like those in Jeddah and Riyadh offer a window into Saudi Arabian culture, where you can find spices, jewelry, handicrafts, and more, all within a bustling, aromatic atmosphere. 5. Red Sea Wonders: The Red Sea coastline offers some of the most spectacular coral reefs and underwater biodiversity, making it a haven for divers and marine enthusiasts. 6. The Edge of the World: This dramatic cliff in the Tuwaiq Escarpment near Riyadh offers breathtaking panoramic views of an endless desert horizon, a favorite for adventurers and nature lovers. 7. Architectural Marvels: From the futuristic skyline of Riyadh with landmarks like the Kingdom Centre to the ancient architecture of Diriyah, Saudi Arabia blends modernity with tradition in a fascinating way. 8. Delicious and Unique Cuisine: Saudi Arabian food like Kabsa, Mandi, and traditional dates are deeply rooted in Bedouin culture. The combination of spices and flavors reflects the country’s rich culinary heritage. 9. Managing Heritage Cultural Assets in Riyadh It has been an honor to manage several cultural heritage sites in Riyadh, where I observed the complex challenges that arise in balancing the preservation of these valuable assets with the need to make them accessible to the public. The city's rapid urbanization and economic development have significantly increased attention on these historical sites. The primary debate centers around two opposing approaches, maintaining heritage sites as untouched preserved locations, or adapting these sites with operational models that allow for public engagement without compromising their authenticity. This debate is not unique to Saudi Arabia due to the rapid pace of urban development and the government's Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to diversify the economy and promote cultural heritage as a pillar of national identity. There is a strong argument for developing these sites into accessible cultural landmarks that attract tourists and engage the public. This perspective aligns with the broader goals of Vision 2030, which aims to position Saudi Arabia and Riyadh as a global cultural destination. The challenge, however, lies in creating an operational model that allows for visitor access without compromising the integrity of the sites.
