More than 100 graduates from around the National Capital Region joined family and friends in a joint service graduation recognition ceremony Nov. 21 at Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall's Memorial Chapel. Dr. Wes Smith, director of the Army Credentialing and Continuing Education Services for Soldiers and keynote speaker, congratulated the graduates on balancing military service while meeting their education goals. “Congratulations for starting this adventure.” he said. “You took aim at your values-based goal, navigated the series of challenges and obstacles, competed in a chaotic world, and earned your degree.” Read more https://lnkd.in/gvpgCjKS #ArmysHome #PeopleFirst #QoL

Today, I completed my Army pre-separation counseling, marking the first milestone in the transition from military service to the next chapter. After 22 years in the Army, this process reinforces how important it is to plan ahead and take full advantage of the resources available for a smooth transition. The military equips us with a unique set of skills, but preparing for what comes next—whether it’s entering the civilian workforce, continuing education, or starting a new venture—is crucial for long-term success. If you're approaching your transition, start early and stay proactive. #TransitionReady #VeteranLeadership #NextChapter #ArmyStrong

I had the opportunity to use the Army Career Skills Program (CSP) during my transition, and it made a huge difference in preparing me for civilian life. Programs like CSP are invaluable for gaining industry experience and certifications while still in uniform, setting you up for success in your next chapter. If you’re thinking about getting out, I highly recommend looking into resources like CSP. Taking advantage of these opportunities early can ease the transition and open up new career paths. For those who’ve used CSP or similar programs, what was your experience like? I’d love to hear how it worked for you!
🛠️ 🏗️ 🔦 The Army Career Skills Program (CSP) is an integral part of the Transition Soldier Life Cycle model, designed to empower Soldiers to take advantage of training and development opportunities throughout their military careers. Today's Friday College Feature is on 2 military schools. The expert on this specific niche is really Lisa (Bachman) Rielage, but I will attempt to do my best. When we think of a military school, we usually think of the United States Military Academy at West Point and rightly so. ➡️ The post itself is the oldest continuously occupied regular army post in the United States. ➡️ Thomas Jefferson created the academy. ➡️ The first West Point superintendent actually had no military experience. ➡️ Now, about 10,000 apply to West Point, but only 1,000 are admitted. Another military school is the United States Merchant Marine Academy. ➡️ It began in 1943. ➡️ It now serves as a training center for midshipmen to serve as officers in the United States Merchant Marine, branches of the United States Armed Forces and in the transportation industry. ➡️ It also enrolls about 1,000 undergrads and has a graduation rate of 81%. Are there other schools you would add? #collegesanduniversities #military #education

“Military-specific orientation, a military resource center, and specialized services are all components of military-focused schools. There’s also a strong focus on developing cultural competencies within staff, so that they can identify the differences between military and non-military students and cater specifically to the needs of both.” — Heather Maxson, Director, Strategic Operations for Military & Veterans, UAGC Did you attend an online college while serving in the military?
