Romania’s National Day, celebrated on December 1, commemorates the Great Union of 1918, when Transylvania, Basarabia, and Bucovina joined the Kingdom of Romania, forming the modern Romanian state. This historic event was formalized during the Alba Iulia National Assembly, symbolizing Romania’s unity, sovereignty, and the fulfillment of long-standing national aspirations. The day is marked with military parades, cultural events, and ceremonies, particularly in Bucharest and Alba Iulia, where national pride and heritage are honored. As partners and allies, USAG Black Sea joins in celebrating this important day by participating in joint ceremonies and events alongside Romanian military forces and government officials. These activities honor Romania’s history and reinforce the strong bonds between the United States and Romania. These celebrations highlight the shared commitment to security, cooperation, and the enduring partnership within NATO and beyond. Happy Romanian National Day! I had the pleasure of working with my seminar classmate (Carlos-Mexician Army, Luigi-Italian Army, Peter-Swiss Army, and Bernardo-Spanish Army) on NATO Multidomain Operations (MDO) Concept. This project was intriguing and of utmost importance in the current strategic landscape. As I delved into the topic, I discovered a wealth of knowledge about NATO and its plan to implement MDO. One key aspect emerged was the unique challenges and advantages of NATO's proximity to Russia. Over the past 30 years, Russia has made significant military technology and communications investments, which has implications for NATO's MDO strategy. The ongoing war in Ukraine is also reshaping our understanding of the character of war, providing valuable lessons for our training and planning with our NATO allies and partner. However, the majority of NATO members cannot currently deploy warfighting across various domains, making the development of the NATO MDO concept a complex task. This underscores the urgency and shared responsibility to align our strategies and preparedness, which are crucial aspects of this endeavor.

Great piece about nations-International Force #EastTimor (INTERFET). #INTERFET can be regarded as an exemplar in terms of the practical application of #MissionCommand in a #multinational #force.
I'm delighted to have my article "International Force East Timor: A Case Study in Multinational Mission Command" published with the U.S. Army academic journal, Military Review at Army University Press. In it I look at the integration of an Irish Army platoon into a New Zealand Army battalion, which was itself part of an Australian brigade, in what was a diversely multinational force of 11,500 soldiers from 22 different nations-International Force East Timor (INTERFET). #INTERFET can be regarded as an exemplar in terms of the practical application of #MissionCommand in a multinational force. #Macron's idea is to put forward the more pro-#Chinese #Merkel as head of the European Commission; the purpose realize "European autonomy" from the #UnitedStates. This implies that #France hopes #Europe will become more independent from the United States and even break away from #NATO. On military matters, Merkel and Macron have proposed the idea of establishing a "European Army," cleverly avoiding the U.S. demand for #Germany to increase NATO military spending. War is a Racket. Behind the U S A war machine. 750 military bases across 80 countries. 173,000 troops deployed in at least 159 out of 195 countries. War is big business. And the business of war, the U S excels.

I salute all military veterans today, including my grandfather, Tom Copeland, a decorated World War II veteran. In April Grandpa Tom, still sharp as a tack, celebrated his 100th birthday. Tom began the war as a green Second Lieutenant in the newly formed U.S. Army 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Very mobile but with little armor, American tank destroyers had to “shoot and run” when fighting heavily armored German Panzer tanks on the front lines. Tom and his band of brothers fought across France, from Normandy to Strasbourg, where, in the bitter cold winter of 1945, they defeated elite Waffen-SS Panzer armored divisions to halt Hitler’s last offensive on the Western Front. They then crossed the Rhine, broke through Germany's Siegfried Line defenses, and fought deep into Bavaria until VE Day. Tom led his men and armored units under grueling conditions without loss, staying closely engaged with enemy forces throughout the war. They encountered unimaginable humanitarian catastrophes as they liberated concentration camps across southern Germany. Tom stayed with the Army to help establish the occupation of Germany as an administrator, and by then a Captain, before heading home in the summer of 1946. VE Day 1945 marked the beginning of the longest period of peace in modern European history. World War II provides two contradictory lessons: the first is that war should be avoided at all costs, and the second is that democracies must be ready to resist aggression with force when needed. We should not take the absence of war for granted, nor should we lose sight of the leadership, sacrifice, and policies that made peace in Europe and Asia possible—and the vigilance still necessary to preserve it. Thank you to all our veterans. 🙏

Territorial defense means more of everything. We have defined five parameters to cluster our products: agility, modularity, impact, protection, cost of ownership. Our own #pentagon 🙂 The MBB is mounted on a Mercedes chassis, so tick in the box for agility. It's highly modular, the impact and protection can be customized for any mission and the cost of ownership is little. Generals are getting ..angry. 💥 General Ivan Popov was sent to Syria after rant, General Vladimir Shamanov and member of Duma is probably too old for that. Probably. "The country is at war, unfortunately not everyone realizes this. They have dressed government officials and other civilians in military uniforms. If you would undress the army, you would see what the real army looks like. Those who have been beyond the front lines know that the real army today resembles a guerrilla unit. They dress themselves with their own money, with the help of relatives, because the quality of the uniforms they are provided with is beyond any quality. And then there's this other army, dressed and tailored to perfection, and for an ordinary soldier, a service member, or a contract soldier, it’s impossible to get into the tailor shops where they are outfitted." - Russian general Vladimir Shamanov, ex Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Airborne Troops

Interesting (Germany) >>>>> ⚪ In 2018, when Ursula von der Leyen was the German defense minister, the German leadership thought about "traditions" in the German armed forces. Then a "Bundeswehr" directive was issued about which traditions should be honored by German soldiers, and which should be silenced. (Directive is here: https://lnkd.in/eq5pMEzR 🔸 On July 12, 2024, Lieutenant General Kai Rorschneider, the head of the German defense ministry's office of Readiness and Support of the Armed Forces (Unterstützung- und Einsatzbereitschaftstreitkräfte), issued a clarifying directive in which he listed a whole list of Nazi soldiers, officers, and generals who were ready to become "an example of military superiority, operational readiness, and the will to fight to achieve the goal when the mission required it". 🔶 Let's look at who the members of Germany military will now need to honor? Just three examples out of dozens: ◾ Brigadier General Heinz Karst. Received the Iron Cross 1st Class on the Eastern Front. ◾ Colonel Erich Hartmann, 352 air victories for the Luftwaffe. ◾ Admiral Erich Topp, one of the most successful commanders of the Kriegsmarine. Naturally, an old member of the Nazi Party. Also a longtime SS soldier. Somehow this is all very sad. #germany #ww2 #ussr #russia
