After more than ten years in international development, you learn the delicate skill of DIPLOMACY... Diplomatic skills that will enable all stakeholders on the table leave the table with their dignity intact and feeling "I got all or at least some of what I wanted".... This is my "poker face" in the middle of one those diplomatic sessions trying to convince a partner that though their actions are well meaning, it will ultimately not result in our agreed desired outcomes but also trying to ensure that no egos are deflated and that they feel that they are critical to the success of the endeavour..... Some may also call it "high level stakeholder engagement" " artful negotiation" etc but one thing is for sure it's a skillset that no IVY league graduate school can teach you because its something you learn after getting burnt a few times "boots on the ground "..... Is starting a second Master’s degree later in your professional life worthwhile? After just one week of International Strategy lectures at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), as part of my Executive Master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy, I can say it absolutely is. Firstly, we are lucky to have a great group of people such as Mary Elizabeth Elkordy, Raissa Achkar, Wolfgang Kniese, Simran Prajapati, Andrew Sharples, Kseniia Vypyrailo, Gabrielle Lamport, Sahar Ghadhban, Minerva D., Kirsten Gagnaire, Alexander Soucek, Tomasz Karolus, Tomoya Osanai, Julie Y. Lee, Jacqueline Cole, Vito Caforio, Sahar Ghadhban, Dr. Sara Al Dallal, Shirley Liu, Billy Katungi, Rachelle MacDonald, Hall Thomas, Raj Kommu, Jinwen 荩文-梁, Miatta-Fatima Kromah and many more. The diverse backgrounds of my classmates—from public, private, and NGO sectors worldwide—bring a wealth of experience to every discussion and are as insightful as the lectures. Equally important, my classmates are genuinely nice people with a great sense of humour, making both the seminars and our time together after lessons fun. Secondly, the calibre of LSE’s speakers is impressive. Hearing from diplomats, government officials, and academics on countries like China and institutions such as NATO is enlightening, especially when viewed through the lens of your own professional experience.  It’s like entering a familiar room where the light bulb has been replaced with a brighter one—you start noticing details you hadn’t seen before. In just seven days, I’ve already felt my thinking evolve on how to challenge assumptions, refine processes when planning a new strategy, and analyse international events more deeply. I am excited about the academic year ahead. #internationalrelations #diplomacy #strategy

To some, the Model United Nations is just a fake world where everyone pretends to be what they are not. But the Model United Nations is more than that, it is not just a stimulation, it is a platform and a whole experience on its own where knowledgeable minds are challenged to think critically and identify pressing world issues while finding solutions to such issues. Delegates come from different backgrounds in life with different opinions, bringing unique perspectives to the table. While it may be difficult to work with so many opinions which may even be contradictory, the goal remains to find a common ground and build solutions that benefit the global community. Some argue that the Lead City University Model United Nations is a fake world where people wield the power they don’t have in the real world but of what use is the power without charisma? Some of the main goals of a Model United Nations society is to teach the delegates how to exercise power, it teaches diplomatic skills and it gives delegates experience on how to deal with people, it improves public speaking skills and generally builds a leader out of a person.
