“Innovation without risk is an illusion.” This is the key takeaway for me in a session by the co-founder of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman who spoke on the topic empowering humanity through AI at University of Oulu. It was an insightful and intriguing session in which the vulnerabilities and potentials of Artificial general intelligence(AGI) were discussed. I wanted to ask him for an advice for young people like me out there but Harri Oinas-Kukkonen did the work for me and asked it. I was a bit surprised by Reid’s response because I have probably never heard of it before. Firstly, he mentioned that your approach to various things in life matters a lot whether it is your degree, work, or even daily life so work on that. Secondly, choose networks wisely. It resonated with me because for some time now I have been able to reap the fruits of right people around me. The networks enables us to amplify our productivity and acts as a trampoline to do more. Lastly, being an entrepreneur and venture capitalist himself, he mentioned the entrepreneurial spirit which one must develop in himself. This was the advice which took me by surprise because whenever we hear the word entrepreneurship, starting a new business venture comes to our mind. It is true but listening to his perspective that we should apply entrepreneurial skills like innovation, management, decision making, creativity, and leadership in our daily life to achieve our goals sewma intriguing and helpful. All in all, it was a wonderful opportunity to learn about AI and its possible consequences in the future. Also, Reid shared his life’s journey a bit as well which was inspiring. Thanks to University of Oulu for arranging this lecture. Would love to see more like this in the future!

How Do Entrepreneurial Innovations Drive an Organization Forward? By Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat In today’s fast-paced world, entrepreneurial innovations are the engine that drives organizations toward success. Whether it's a small business or a large corporation, the infusion of fresh ideas can revolutionize the way things are done, creating new opportunities and opening doors to untapped markets. Entrepreneurs aren’t just problem-solvers; they are visionary leaders who see beyond the status quo. Their willingness to take risks and embrace new technologies can transform an organization, making it more competitive and adaptive to market shifts. Innovation leads to improved efficiency, better customer experiences, and a stronger bottom line. However, the key to real progress lies in action. Innovation without execution is simply a dream. Organizations must empower their teams, invest in resources, and create a culture where creative thinking is encouraged. When ideas are supported with real-world strategies, organizations can navigate challenges and stay ahead of the curve. In every challenge, there is potential. Entrepreneurial innovation taps into that potential, pushing organizations forward, driving growth, and shaping the future. Innovations cannot take place without MVP, writes (Salman Nasir) Innovation is the lifeblood of businesses seeking to thrive in today’s competitive landscape. To succeed, companies must embrace open innovation, a paradigm shift that recognizes the power of combining internal and external ideas to drive growth. This approach acknowledges that innovation occurs more quickly and effectively when businesses leverage both internal expertise and external perspectives, utilizing both internal and external paths to market. At the heart of this strategy lies the Minimum Viable Product (MVP), a foundational element that enables businesses to test and refine their ideas. Empirical evidence confirms that MVP is the conduit that brings internal and external ideas together, completing the matrix of innovation. As a specialist with over 24 years of experience in the IT industry, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of MVP for startups and entrepreneurs. It is the key to unlocking innovation and driving success. In today’s fast-paced business environment, perspicacious businessmen recognize that innovations cannot take place without an MVP. It is the foundation upon which entire business strategies are built. Remove MVP from the equation, and the business will crumble. By embracing open innovation and leveraging MVP, businesses can unlock their full potential, compete on the global stage, and achieve long-term success.

What do we mean when we talk about innovation and entrepreneurship? Innovation, is the process of transforming ideas into solutions that create value—be it through new products, services, or ways of doing things. Innovation challenges the status quo and pushes boundaries. Entrepreneurship, on the other hand, is the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources. It’s about building something from nothing, driven by the vision of creating change or addressing problems and needs. Entrepreneurs are the daring individuals who implement innovations, turning visions into reality. Why am I drawn to these areas? Well, recently our region has made waves in the global market, with new support mechanisms recently announced such as Ormeau Baths Founder's Labs, Catalyst Open Innovation, and some exciting programmes looming at our very own Digital Catapult (which will be announced soon). My work life's career in innovation and my passion for entrepreneurship frequently cross paths, revealing a pattern where innovation feeds entrepreneurial ventures, and entrepreneurial actions spur further innovation. This close relationship peaked my interest, and I am keen to document the journey of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in our region. With that in mind, what does innovation mean to you? How do you see entrepreneurship and/or Innovation in our region evolving?

"You never finish anything. That's why you won't achieve anything proper." That's something my dad often told me because I've always been fascinated by new things and I try out a lot. But just as quickly as I start new things, I stop them again... And for a long time, I was convinced, that this was a bad quality. (Because: Don't you have to focus on one thing to become good at it?) Now I see it differently. Today I realise that as an entrepreneur it is an extremely good quality to want to try out different things and never sit on one thing for too long. To me, this literally is what innovation and progress means: Constantly engaging with new ideas and initiating new things. Do you like to try out lots of things or do you rather focus on one thing in long-term?

In the GE 850 - Advanced Technology Innovation Management course, offered by Professor Tate Cao at the University of Saskatchewan, I have gained valuable insights into the different ways innovative technologies can be brought to market. As a graduate student, my focus has primarily been on exploring innovative techniques and designs, making the concept of entrepreneurship relatively unfamiliar to me. I have never seriously considered becoming an entrepreneur for the techniques or designs I am working to develop. In my view, bringing new, innovative designs to market seems risky, largely because I wouldn’t know where to start and fear the possibility of failure. However, through this class, the process of starting a business has become much clearer. I now have a more comprehensive understanding of what it takes to establish a start-up, the critical choices to consider, how to evaluate risks, and strategies to navigate the challenges. While risk can never be entirely eliminated, this understanding significantly reduces uncertainty and builds confidence. One aspect of this class I’ve particularly appreciated is the emphasis on social entrepreneurship. I’ve observed companies pursuing social value before but never fully understood why they prioritize it over maximizing profits. This perspective has made me reflect on my own research, prompting me to question whether the work I’m pursuing delivers meaningful value to society beyond just technological innovation.

Cost-Cutting is a Trap! Innovation is your escape hatch. I've seen too many small businesses tighten belts, only to realize too late they've squeezed the life out of their future potential. My journey from a struggling entrepreneur to launching several successful ventures taught me this hard truth. Here's how to thrive, not just survive: 1️⃣ Spot the Innovation Gap Your competitors are cutting costs. It's your chance to leap ahead. Invest in new technology, explore new markets. I did, transforming setbacks into setups for future success. 2️⃣ Value > Cost Every dollar saved on innovation is a step away from your next breakthrough. Remember, your greatest asset is your ability to innovate. 3️⃣ Embrace Change The landscape is evolving. What worked yesterday won't guarantee success tomorrow. Stay adaptable. My pivot from medicine to entrepreneurship was fueled by this realization. 4️⃣ Customer-Centric Innovation Listen to your customers. Their needs are your innovation roadmap. Solving real problems creates real value. 5️⃣ Fail Forward Every failed experiment is a lesson. Embrace them. They're the stepping stones to your next big win. 6️⃣ Collaborate to Innovate Partnerships can unlock new possibilities. My journey is a testament to the power of strategic collaborations. 7️⃣ Future-Proof Your Business Investing in innovation is investing in your future. Make your business resilient against unforeseen challenges. To learn more: qrco.de/bevqjc ✍️ How are you ensuring your business isn't just surviving but thriving? In our race towards tomorrow, one fact remains unshakeable: technology and entrepreneurship are twined bridges, spiraling into the undiscovered country of our future. Surely we've all heard it said - Every entrepreneur is a technologist, and every technologist, an entrepreneur. • It's a serendipitous symbiosis, really. Entrepreneurship sows seeds of innovation, and in turn, technology fuels their growth. Very often, we bring life to our wildest ideas through entrepreneurship. However, the real power lies not just in invention, but in the reinvention of ourselves, our businesses, and even our world views. • Indeed, every new technological reach urges us towards that transformation. Sometimes this change is daunting, causing us to instinctively shy away. Even so, it is the pearls of disruption that often bring about the most profound innovation. • Take, for instance, the burgeoning realm of artificial intelligence
