Warrior Games 2024 is getting closer! Let's introduce you to Team Army member (Ret.) SPC Brent Garlic. Meet retired SPC Brent Garlic. He served 2 years before his injury during the pre-9/11 era. Garlic would describe his injury as an alien abduction. He has very limited memory of the day before, no memory of the incident, and awakened out of his coma a few days later in this new body. Life as he knew it had been completely changed. People typically don't realize how much life changes when you lose walking ability. Accessibility to homes, cars, or businesses become extremely limited. Opportunities for employment, relationships or even health improvement are extremely challenging. The lifestyle sacrifices seem to be almost boundless. Upon the discovery of adaptive sports, life has taken on a new meaning. SPC Garlic was in such a dark hole of doubt and aimlessness. 4 years after Brent's injury, he stumbled upon wheelchair sports and it open his eyes to another world. The adaptive sports community is filled with thousands of individuals who are dealing with the same obstacles that he faces daily. Just when he thought that it couldn't get any better, Brent stumbled across Warrior Games. The DoD found a way to merge adaptive sports with service men and women across the country. It is the best way to remain connected to his family-in-arms as well as learn to adapt and grow through adaptive sports. If it weren't for retired Staff Sargent Robert Jones of Atlanta, GA., he probably still wouldn't have heard about these amazing military programs. Feel like like life has beaten you up? Wrestlers are tough! And they get beaten up! Ask Nick Celli. After placing 5th in state he told me an opponent poked him with his finger under his eyelid. Ouch! Life can beat us down. Family members die. Friends die. Health challenges arise. Relationships get strained. Transitions stress and strain us. Wrestlers are tough and understand in order to persevere and win you must have a warrior’s mindset. Veterans understand death. About health challenges. About The difficulty of maintaining long distance relationships when deployed. And the stress of reintegration after redeployment. Whew! Veterans also know, all too well, about transitions. Wrestlers are tough. Veterans are even tougher. Just ask one. Want to know more? DM me. #wrestling #mindset #transitions #deployments #veterans

Why are you playing games? Inspiration from the most unlikely of sources. Top Gun Maverick. I re-watched this on my recent long-haul flight, and in the midst of the tension training to accomplish what many deemed impossible, the squad took time out to play beach football. When the mission commander arrived at the base expecting to see them all in yet another briefing meeting, he was appalled to find the base empty and went looking for them. He found them on the beach and confronted the squadron leader [the mighty 'Maverick'], asking: Why are you playing games? Maverick's response was simple: You asked me to create a team. There’s your team. This made me think of global organisations and their view of investing in gatherings; conferences, workshops, or socials. We're not just playing games; we're energising and uniting people behind the purpose and the strategy. We're energising & mobilising teams. #liveevents #leadership #internalcomms Abi Humayun Chris Platt Vikki Barcroft Laura Gallagher Kathryn Guy Sophie Roycroft Therese Cheng Wing Yu Pippa McGuire Charlie Anderson Katie Scicluna

Does this sign look familiar? To my fellow veterans, it might. This sign would often greet us at the entrance/exit of our Forward Operating Base (FOB), serving as a crucial reminder not to get too comfortable while out on patrols. Now, I’ve hung a version of that sign in my garage gym, as a personal reminder to avoid complacency in life—both personally and professionally. It encourages me to always strive for growth, to educate myself , and be better. What does your reminder look like? How do you stay motivated to keep pushing forward? #VeteransCommunity #StayMotivated #AlwaysGrowing #Education #Good #Letsgo #transportationcommunity #supplychainlogistics

"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win" by Sun Tzu emphasizes the importance of preparation and strategy over mere aggression. Sun Tzu, a Chinese military strategist, implies that success in any battle depends on careful planning and forethought rather than on the heat of the moment decisions. In essence, this means that a successful individual or team anticipates challenges, understands the environment, and prepares extensively before facing the actual challenge. This approach contrasts with one where individuals rush into situations unprepared, hoping to figure out solutions as problems arise. For example, consider a chess player: A victorious player studies their opponent's past games, prepares strategies, and anticipates moves before the game begins. They've essentially 'won' the game in their preparation phase by understanding their opponent's weaknesses and preparing countermeasures. In contrast, a defeated player starts the game without any preparation, hoping to simply react to the opponent's moves, which often leads to a loss as they are unprepared for the challenges that arise. ♻️ PLEASE help share the post 🙏 https://lnkd.in/ejUu7ffT

Physical fitness is a core component of military readiness. That makes sense, right? The spin is that you don’t think of the military working out at a Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium. Multiple times per year, members of the US Army, US Navy, United States Air Force, United States Marine Corps, United States Space Force, and U.S. Coast Guard are invited to participate in Base HIIT workouts. Base HIIT is a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout utilizing Nationals Park for a workout is specifically designed for military service members. Base HIIT includes 9 stations of 5-minute workouts, including push-ups, stair running, agilities, shuttle run, shadow boxing, medicine ball exercises and core strength work. The program was started by the Washington Nationals in 2022 to give members of the armed forces a chance to come together and use the ballpark. Base HIIT has attracted more than 750 participants over four sessions this year, growing as it becomes better known in the area for the ability to work out in such a unique setting. In addition to the experience, participants are invited to attend an upcoming Nationals game. This is a fabulous community program. There’s only one thing missing, from what I can tell. Anyone with me on what that may be? A brand partner to support the effort and plus-up the experience. The right brand partner could bring additional value to the participants, making a connection with the audience in an authentic manner. T-shirts, workout gear, or food & beverage vouchers at the game could all be provided to the participants by a brand, allowing for an enhanced experience for the participants, an opportunity for the brand to connect with the audience, all at no additional expense to the team. Community and sponsorship teams within professional sports organizations don’t always sync up on opportunities. But they should. #MilitaryMarketing #Military #Marketing #MilitaryAppreciation #SportsBiz
