A few useful pointers... The discussion of death with children requires honesty. Using clear and simple language is key to conveying the truth about what has occurred, fostering trust. Tailoring explanations to the child’s developmental stage is important too; younger children may require reassurance that the person's body has stopped working rather than discussing more abstract ideas. Presenting information in small, easily understandable portions promotes better comprehension, especially for younger children. Actively listening to their thoughts and emotions encourages open dialogue and helps address their worries. Promptly addressing their questions can reduce anxiety and clear up any misunderstandings. Adults should not shy away from displaying emotions in front of children as it helps them feel comfortable sharing their own. Our upcoming post in this series will focus on children and farewell rituals. #ChildrenGrieveToo #buildinghope

#thursdaythoughts #parenting What should be your goal as a parent? To raise a child who obeys instantly and mindlessly. OR Raise a child who is able to problem-solve and make positive, rational choices. As a parent, one needs to set his/her goal towards the right direction. Our goal can't be to just have the short-term well-behaved child. That child needs to learn values and empathy, learn to think for themselves and make positive choices. That doesn’t just happen from focusing on behaviour. We have to guide, teach and model what we want to see in our children. We have to walk beside them and help them through, not just stand back giving rewards and punishments.
