Target & Penalties - The Foreign Extortion Prevention Act (FEPA): Foreign Officials Brought Within Scope (part 2) 🎯 What Does FEPA Target? * FEPA now tackles the demand-side of foreign bribery. This complements the FCPA, which focuses on supply. * FEPA criminalizes the demand or receipt of bribes by foreign officials, further expanding the U.S.’ enforcement regime. * FEPA bridges a long-standing gap in combating corruption in the U.S. enforcement landscape. These developments are relevant for U.S. and international companies, as well as foreign officials. 💰 Penalties Include: * Fines of up to $250,000, or three times the bribe’s monetary value; OR * a prison sentence of up to 15 years; OR * both.
