Today, the EU formally adopted the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive (#AAQD), setting stricter air quality standards to align with WHO guidelines by 2030. This directive marks a significant step in improving public health and environmental protection across Europe. At Palas GmbH, we are ready to support governments and industries in meeting these ambitious goals. Our advanced air quality monitoring and measurement solutions ensure compliance and provide the accurate data necessary for timely action. The directive will be a key focus at the upcoming Air Quality Forum (www.airqualityforum.com), where experts from industry, science, and policy will discuss its impact and the innovations needed to meet the 2030 targets. 🌍 This week, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) is at the IMO for the Marine Environment Protection Committee meeting. One of the key topics on the agenda is the negotiation of new climate measures, where the NSA is actively advocating for meaningful change. 🚢 We strongly support the implementation of a marine fuel standard and the adoption of a separate carbon pricing mechanism, using a contribution and reward system where the revenues generated will incentivise accelerated production and uptake of alternative marine fuels. 🌊These measures are critical to ensure the shipping industry’s transition towards sustainable operations and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Together, we can drive the future of maritime towards a cleaner and greener industry. 🌱 International Maritime Organization

Important message from our Air Quality Taskforce at EIC. 💡 Government support such as that of the Local Air Quality Grant scheme is crucial in facilitating the efforts of local leaders to improve air quality, and consequently public health, in their areas. For more information on air quality policy at EIC, and to get involved with the Taskforce, please feel free to drop me a message. 🌱 Sarah Horrocks Guto Davies
The UK Government has announced that £6m funding as part of the Local Air Quality Grant Scheme is to be withheld. The announcement has prompted significant concern among many of our Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) members. Local authorities, many of whom have been supported by EIC members, have invested time and public money to navigate the application process. Our CEO Kate Jennings and Sarah Horrocks from AtkinsRéalis, Chair of our Air Quality Taskforce, have written to the Minister on behalf of members. Read our full response to the news, as well as our letter outlining important next steps ⬇️ #airquality #cleanair #policy #localgovernment #environment

You know what's REALLY scary?🎃 Breathing polluted air!🤧 On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IL EPA) was selected to receive funding through the Clean Ports Program, which aims to reduce air pollution at US ports. Illinois secured funding for both opportunities: - Climate and Air Quality Planning (CAQP) Competition: provides funding for climate and air quality initiatives at U.S. ports, empowering port stakeholders to reduce pollution and gradually transition to zero-emission operations. - Zero-Emission Technology Deployment (ZE Tech) Competition: supports the adoption of zero-emission port equipment and infrastructure, aiming to cut mobile source emissions—including criteria pollutants, air toxics, and greenhouse gases—ultimately contributing to cleaner air for communities nationwide. The IL EPA is expected to receive $2,997,998 and $92,058,008, respectively. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) selected 55 recipients for the $2.9 billion available from applications to the Clean Ports Program🚢 #CleanAir #USPorts #CleanAir #EPA #ReducePollution

In a significant ruling, the D.C. Circuit in Marin Audubon Society v. Federal Aviation Administration held that the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) lacks the statutory authority to issue binding regulations under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The decision calls into question the legal basis for key aspects of NEPA compliance, including the use of categorical exclusions, which have long been central to streamlining environmental reviews.
