Every day, I’m inspired scrolling through LinkedIn. My network is full of dedicated colleagues across the UK working tirelessly to nurture and support young people in our 3,491 children’s homes. The trauma-informed care, innovative frameworks, and life-changing opportunities shared here reflect the incredible efforts of both local authorities and private providers. But amidst all this fantastic work, there’s an opportunity we can’t overlook. A brighter future for our children also means a healthier future for our planet. 🌍 As a network, we have the collective power to make a real difference. If each home reduced its carbon footprint by just 1,000kg of CO₂e, imagine the impact we could achieve—together. This isn’t about “boring sustainability talk.” It’s about taking meaningful steps today for the young people we care for and for generations to come. So, here’s a simple start this Christmas: The Scrunch Test for recyclable wrapping paper. 🎁 Scrunch it: If it stays in a ball, it’s likely recyclable. Check for glitter or foil: If it sparkles or shimmers, it’s not recyclable. This tip, inspired by the fantastic Climate Champions at Doncaster Council, it is a small step that we can all take this festive season. Small actions, multiplied by thousands of homes, can spark big change. Let’s lead by example and show our young people that caring for our planet is part of building their brighter future. 🌱 What small steps are you taking this Christmas to reduce waste or your carbon footprint? I’d love to hear your ideas and for your to share this simple tip! #Sustainability #CareForChildren #ClimateAction #BrighterFuture #Leadership #Everydayisaschoolday

🎄🌟 Christmas is a time for celebration, indulgence, and joy. It often involves increased spending on food and gifts, but there's more to consider during the festive season. From decorative lighting to heating and cooking, Christmas can lead to a significant spike in energy usage. In the past, if you made a big effort to save energy at Christmas, you might have been called a Grinch, but with rising energy costs and concerns about the climate crisis, there's a growing awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption. Fortunately, there are various ways to make your Christmas more eco-friendly without dampening the festive spirit. By adopting small everyday actions and considering larger initiatives, you can lessen your environmental footprint and save on costs while still enjoying the holiday season. Together with ECO Solutions, let's spend one hour TURNING OFF LIGHTS for our shared home. We are no strangers to the act of TURNING OFF LIGHTS to support the annual EARTH HOUR event. Whether it's turning off lights, planting trees, cleaning up communities, or reducing our carbon footprint, every small action contributes to protecting our shared home. This year, let's give even more hours to Earth by dedicating 60 minutes to do something good for the planet. Your simplest task today is to set your alarm for 8:30 PM to remember to spend an hour for Earth and make a significant difference in safeguarding our planet for future generations. Let's drop the icon "🌎" or share the screenshot of your Earth Hour alarm to join hands with ECO Solutions and spread knowledge about Earth Day! #BiggestHourForEarth

As we celebrate #EarthMonth, we'd like to continue showcasing stakeholders who share our mission to prevent food waste and hunger in our communities. 💚 Hear from Anna Siefken, 412 Food Rescue Board Member & U.S. Department of Energy 👇 "I have spent most of my career making the business case for energy efficiency, climate tech innovation, and building performance as a means to address the world’s energy challenges and the global urgency of climate change. I’ve worked for energy – specifically clean energy – for many years, including roles at The Home Depot, global consulting firm ICF, Green Building Alliance here in Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, and now at DOE. The common thread has always been “…how can we use existing measures and new innovative technologies to do cool things to save the planet?” When it comes to emissions, food waste is one of the worst contributors. I got involved with 412 Food Rescue because I saw a significant opportunity for us to pair together food redistribution, waste reduction, systems optimization, and innovative technology to eliminate a huge portion of food from landfills. That is a really big deal. I think that we all make decisions on things that we buy and purchase, both at home and at work. By changing those behaviors, we can start to get at the root causes of our waste problem.” https://lnkd.in/eU_v6mtE

Hello Thrivers! 🌟 As we approach the new year, we’re excited to introduce ‘Thrivable Tips’, a fortnightly series where we’ll share actionable insights to help you thrive, going beyond sustainability into a future where people and the planet flourish. This week, we’re diving into New Year’s Resolutions, small but impactful steps we can take to create meaningful change every year: 🌌.1Adopt a Dark Sky Practise Reduce light pollution by turning off unnecessary outdoor lights at night. Use the opportunity to stargaze and reconnect with the natural world. 🍳 2. Cook One Zero-Waste Meal a Week Minimise food waste by planning a meal that uses scraps or leftovers. Try making veggie broth from peelings or a stir-fry with wilting greens. 🚿3. Start a 'Shower Timer' Challenge Turn water conservation into a game. Challenge yourself and others to keep showers under five minutes and track progress with a fun app or simple timer. 🎁 4. Host a “Re-Gift Revolution” Encourage your community to exchange unwanted items through a gifting circle or re-gifting event, turning excess into thoughtful treasures while reducing waste. 🌞5. Use a DIY Solar Charger Solar chargers for devices are a simple way to explore renewable energy at home! Plus, many governments offer financial incentives for larger solar projects—check what’s available in your area! Want to learn more about thrivable living? Click the link to our website https://lnkd.in/g4nS3WhN to explore how you can make this year your most impactful yet.
