The Ontario Health West (OH West) Central Intake Project aims to provide equity for CT and MRI accessibility across the OH West region. The project is a significant investment for the healthcare system and is expected to enhance patient access to CT/MRI services, simplify the process for routine booking, optimize system capacity and enable future modernizations and innovative changes. Throughout the month of March, SBGHC participated within a key role of the Proof-of-Concept team, which was designed to test patients’ willingness to travel further distances for shorter wait times for medical imaging. Partnering sites that took part in the proof of concept included: London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare London, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and South Bruce Grey Health Centre. At SBGHC, we know that rural health care is unique, and by taking on a lead role in the Proof-of-Concept project we are working to collaborate with OH West and larger urban centers in a mutually beneficial way, for all patients, to access MRI and CT services. #WeAreSBGHC #Community #AccessToCare #centralintake #OntarioHealthWest #MedicalImaging #DiagnosticImaging #Partners #UsingResourcesWisely #HealthyCommunities #PatientsAsPartners

UPMC Hires McKinsey to Address Basic Health System Operations. Is this a Very Expensive Admission of a Lack of Confidence in the Organization's Leadership/Infrastructure or a Step Towards Innovation? Whatever one's opinion about UPMC, this is a wakeup call for health systems to redouble their focus on basic operations and physician/workforce relationships. It also raises questions about the benefits of being a payer. https://lnkd.in/gWJrbQG9 So it goes n8 #healthsystems #hospitals #physicians

A growing number of hospitals and health systems are considering partnerships as they navigate industry headwinds. While facing similar concerns, the Watertown Regional Medical Center (WRMC) board knew the organization needed a partner to best serve the community going forward. In 2014, the board conducted a competitive process to thoroughly assess strategic ownership alternatives, ultimately deciding to enter into a joint venture transaction with a larger company. This partnership allowed the organization to remain financially viable, improve quality initiatives, retain employees and services, build collaborative relationships with medical staff, and retain material local governance responsibility. The unique structure also led to the creation of the Greater Watertown Community Health Foundation, which has served as a catalyst for transforming the health and well-being of the community. If you are interested in exploring how an innovative partnership might transform your hospital and community, please don’t hesitate to contact Chris Benson, FACHE, CMPE at cbenson@juniperadvisory.com or 480.695.2311. I had the opportunity to attend Australian Healthcare Week #AHW in Sydney this week and to hear from industry experts on the forefront of health technology, age care evolution, and the transformative power of patient-centric healthcare. Session highlights for me included: ♦️ Empowering Patient-Centric Care: Stewart Dowrick, Frank Tracey, Brendan Goodger and Colleen Jen debating what is needed to put the patient at the heart of healthcare decision making and if we are bold enough to move from treatment to prevention. → We need to put people back in the equation and change mindsets to bring about change in service delivery (hospital → home-based care) → Healthcare 2040 opportunities…integration of dental care; more education/engagement around social determinants; cultural integration and making genomics mainstream to support home-based care. ♦️ The AI Frontier: Nirvana Luckraj, Dr John F. Lambert, Nathan Moore FAIDH CHIA Martin Canova discussing the coexistence or confrontation of AI in healthcare, what the boundaries between AI and human expertise may look like, its role in clinical decision making, and critical issues of trust and health literacy. ♦️ Revolutionising Healthcare Delivery: Josie Rudman MBE RN showcased NHS England's bold vision for the future of healthcare delivery. The New Hospitals Programme promises to revolutionise care quality, sustainability, and collaboration. ♦️ The Healing Power of Movement: Dr Tim Henwood presenting the transformative potential of exercise pathways and wellness models of care. Backed by compelling evidence, these approaches deliver profound improvements in client outcomes and overall well-being. Throughout these sessions, a resounding call for shared decision-making - "Nothing about me, without me” is what will drive us towards a future where healthcare truly serves every individual's needs. #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCentricity #AIinHealthcare #AHW2024

I had the honour of giving the opening address to last week's Royal Society of Medicine annual GP and Primary care conference in London. In the light of the recent Lord Darzi NHS review and my own work on healthcare systems futures I was invited to lay out an inspirational vision for the future of Primary and Community Care in a technology enabled 21st Century. My presentation included the following themes: - With an ageing and increasingly sick population - if we keep doing the same things we will get the same results = possible doubling of demand/costs over the next 10-15 years. - Any future health and care system needs to move beyond a reactive sickness service and address whole person health if we are to arrest the decline in public health bend the demand curve. - This means bringing a wider coalition of actors together around a transformational vision for person and community centred health that offers a north star around which a new holistic system of health can be orchestrated - this is much more than a "plan". - Next generation medical breakthroughs, early disease detection, accelerating technologies and new paradigms of personal and community based care all herald a fundamental shift from acute care to community/person enabled care. - Data, digital and AI will all play an important enabling role in distributing and sharing knowledge, insight and intelligence across system boundaries to where it can be of most use and value in providing care support. - A move away from sausage machine thinking - Collaboration, co-working and new networks of holistic community based care will require new approaches to creating value and how we measure value - this will need to be rooted in a much deeper understanding of lived experience and what truly matters to the people we serve. - Primary Care will be at the forefront of this revolution so is well placed to play a driving role in redefining the future of health if it has the imagination, vision and systems level support to do so. #nhs #primarycare #communitycare #socialcare #health #populationhealth #wellbeing #humanflourishing #futureofhealth

As ACHE Congress week wraps up, just a few thoughts on the state of healthcare: First, I couldn’t be more excited about how deeply the entire community is thinking about wellness instead of sickness. It’s a hard paradigm shift but industry leaders are bringing all sorts of innovation to the table. Second, it’s just so clear that “access” and the ability of patients to get help when they need it is replacing pandemic concerns about staffing and “can we even survive” as one of the biggest challenges. Employers had better be thinking about how they ensure their employees have access when needed. It’s going to be a perk. Third, the level of animosity from providers and health systems towards payers is super high and not sustainable. The skirmishes are going to turn into real battles more frequently and consumers are going to get caught in, and confused by, the crossfire. Who is going to do the better job of educating? One final note: can’t help but brag about UAB. The leaders that the MSHA program produces are just everywhere. The imprint that UAB and its graduates have across the healthcare system is really staggering! #healthcare #patientcentered #uabmsha #patientaccess #wellness #sdoh
