This week I discovered something inspiring about myself skills and competencies. at the African Leadership Development Centre (ALDC) I learnt that when you are not given the due credit for your ideas skills and contributions to your team or organisation, you should not stop adding value because you are building yourself in the process. Honestly I was at the point where I thought that I would stop giving my best but after that course I decided to try it out. To my surprise I realised that I had truly grown in terms of leadership. 1. My ability to deliver results under pressure has increased. 2. My ability to prioritise workload to ensure efficiency has increased. 3. I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty and behaving like a boss while others work. Am able to help and assist where needed. 4. I was able to divide labor so that everyone works together for the common good instead of leaving only one person to be loaded with so much to do and slowing time. 5. My communication and interaction amongst colleagues has improved am able to pass my information clearly without causing harm to anyone's feelings has greatly improved. For this I really feel good about myself and am hopeful that this will help me as in my future prospects in project management.

Personal and professional development is crucial for talent retention!
Stepping into a new role is exciting, but it can also be daunting for employees who are promoted into leadership or unfamiliar responsibilities. It’s crucial to ensure they are prepared for success, not just through professional development, but by fostering confidence, growth, and support. The final part of our series focuses on Transition -- how well employees are equipped to handle, and ultimately thrive, in new positions as they progress in their career within your company. Here are a few strategic ideas to support an employee’s transition: Mentorship: Pair employees with an experienced mentor within the organization who can guide them through new challenges and offer advice. Skill Development: Ensure they have access to appropriate resources—whether it’s leadership development (Our E3 Leadership Academy is great for this!) or learning specific technical skills. Clear Expectations: Be honest and transparent about their new responsibilities and provide a roadmap for their success. Honest Feedback: Foster an environment rich in psychological safety where they feel comfortable seeking feedback and know that continuous improvement is a priority. By equipping your newly promoted employees with the right tools, guidance, and encouragement, you're not just setting them up for individual success—you’re investing in the future success of your organization.

Our Program Management Training Initiative (PMTI) fosters a diverse leadership pipeline of women and people of color in the Program Management field. Last week, I spoke with our 2024 PMTI cohort about how critical effective program management is for Lockheed Martin and for our customers. We had a great discussion full of thoughtful questions, and I'd like to share some takeaways that have guided me in my career: • Appreciate the potential for what's possible: By holding a growth mindset and being open to the limitless possibilities of positive change, you will excel and achieve incredible things. • Own your outcomes: Leaders who go off track are often those who seek out reasons why they couldn't deliver results. Be accountable and own your outcomes. • Get comfortable with humility: Humility isn't thinking less of yourself. It's thinking about yourself less. When you keep your focus on the important work you do and on your team's success, your own success will follow. Thank you to our 2024 PMTI cohort for joining me and for your continued dedication to our mission of helping the U.S. and its allies stay ahead of ready. I look forward to seeing how each of you grows in your career.

Lockheed Martin strives to develop our teammates throughout their careers. A #leadership development program like the Program Management Training Initiative is a great example. One of Frank’s key takeaways that resonated with me was owning your outcomes. We can sometimes look at what is immediately in front of us rather than the whole picture. Developing backup plans for the backup plan can help the team think through potential stumbling blocks and mitigate risks. Spend some time running scenarios, even if they may never happen. Leadership training helps show our future leaders how important it is to be accountable for what you deliver.
