How does a tauiwi embrace the Kia ora energy this Māori Language Week? ———————————— We are celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Māori Language Week as a non-indigenous New Zealander. We are embracing Te Reo Māori, not afraid to make mistakes and learn. Thank you, ladies, for coming along at a short notice :) I reached out to these amazing wāhine to join me in this video and it was an instant yes from all. Each of us is originally from a different country or of descent. Our accents are different. We don't look the same. But Aotearoa is now our common home. We acknowledge the Tangata Whenua and the native language of the land. And we also rejoice in the diversity and uniqueness of each of us, the Tangata Tiriti. ———————————— The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is “Ake ake ake – A Forever Language”. It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of the language. Disclaimer: This post is not commissioned by the Government, a political party or any other organisation. We are simply showing our support to te reo. ———————————— Do you have a favourite word or phrase in te reo Māori, share in comments below 👇🏽 so we can all learn. ———————————— Connect Moumita Das Roy 🇮🇳🇳🇿 Follow #WonderingMo Ring 🔔 on my profile I write about: #SocialImpact #RacialEquity #DiversityAndInclusion ———————————— Featured in the video, in order of appearance: Stella Hye Chung Jeon, Dr Kudzai Zvenyika, Ania Migdalek-Jablonska, Norie Ape, Anabella Bianchi, Sarah Davies 💸 The Business Whisperer, Irene Naidu, Ronnie Cheung, Lisa Mulligan, Silvia Fernandez Calderon, Ren Saguil, Andrea Edwards Ph.D.

It is no longer necessary to be fluent in multiple languages, as there is a push for a universal lingua franca that can be understood worldwide. 🌍 This is the main aim of constructed international auxiliary languages. Today, one of the most widely used is Esperanto. It seeks to bridge communication gaps and facilitate global understanding by providing a common language that can be easily learned and used by people from different linguistic backgrounds. Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori marks the moment the Māori Language Petition was presented to Parliament in 1972, on the first Māori Language Day. Three years later, it became what we now know as Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. We hope that you took up the wero (challenge) and learnt some new kupu (words), waiata (songs) or whakataukī (proverbs) whilst celebrating this beautiful language of Aotearoa, like we at ECPAT have done! Kia kaha te reo Māori - as 2024's theme of 'Ake Ake Ake - A Forever Language' demonstrates, te Reo Māori is not just for one week. We will continue to demonstrate our support and uplift te reo Māori now and into the future. You can join us by taking part in #MahuruMāori - continue to use te reo Māori unapologetically during the month of Mahuru. It doesn’t matter if your reo skills stop at kia ora, that just means there's more room to grow 🌱 https://lnkd.in/gS2stVJ3 has resources that you can read, listen to and use to practice your te reo Māori speaking skills. https://lnkd.in/gQZ8kzN has learning pathways, resources, stories about people's journeys and more. https://kupu.maori.nz/ Kupu o te Rā is a great way to start adding a bit of reo to your day. 🧐 What are your favourite ways of incorporating te reo Māori into your daily life?
