You're a Partner in a law firm, balking at the cost of using an agency to recruit. But have you considered the cost of NOT recruiting? You've likely just lost a fee earner. They will be gone from their desk in three months most likely. If you wait (on average) two months to hire their replacement, you've likely got an empty chair for two months. Let's conservatively say that fee earner charges out at £250 per hour. Let's conservatively say that fee earner does 30 billable hours per week. You've just lost £7500. A week. And you've likely got another 7 weeks of that until the new person starts.... A good agency WILL reduce that replacement time SIGNIFICANTLY. And they likely won't charge you even a fifth of what you lose. Worth thinking about.
