The best way to manage our forests is through co-management. When the public is involved in managing the health of an ecosystem, a sense of community is born. However, when the industry has full control over the forestry sector, it leaves the public with a knowledge gap. How will we know what is going on? What is working? What isn't? We have to be there, be present, be involved.
Public consultation is available and public action is possible, but public co-management is minimally an option. Having volunteer-based redemption projects in conjunction with conservation authorities and the forestry industry would promote community, skill growth, self-confidence, confidence in the industry, accountability in the industry, and many more benefits.
I think people would love to get involved. Would you?
