I remember when I volunteered for #Malaria Day at Eseke Community , it was completely out of my comfort zone, it taught me the power of community collaboration and how much impact we can create together. At HelloPrint, we believe in giving back to our community. Our commitment to volunteering goes beyond just words; we aim (and allow!) for each employee to dedicate 24 hours a year to community service. In 2023 we've initiated these efforts, starting with monthly cooking sessions at the Ronald McDonald Huis Sophia Rotterdam. This year we’re ramping up and introduced new initiatives like happiness walks with elderly people, partnering with JINC, as well as working with the local Voedselbank Rotterdam. While many companies offer volunteer time off, only a few employees make use of this opportunity. Why? Resources are not provided by the company. At HelloPrint, we proactively schedule and organize activities to ensure our team members can make a meaningful difference. Volunteering is not only beneficial for our local community but it also opens our eyes to the realities around us. For example, we've come to understand the loneliness that many elderly people face or the financial struggles that prevent some from accessing food. These experiences teach us (or.. at least me!) gratitude. And it's a powerful reminder to appreciate what we have and to consider how we can make a positive impact. Finding the balance #iwillweek day 1 It’s an interesting theme when the world seems full of polarised and often divisive thinking. When Rights ‘compete’ and to be successful you are often told you must immerse, develop good habits, maximise your time and develop and then grow your personal brand. Young people are entering a world where all this advice on how to make ‘shortcuts’ to leadership positions, make sure you stand for something purposeful, and developing effective habits often sit uncomfortably with finding a balance, bridging divides, holding safe spaces for reflection and curiosity. I’ve opted out of some of the more exhausting behaviours of leadership recently and therefore my presence in some spaces particular online has been less. But I’ve made a decision to only add to the noise when there something additional or valuable to say; to bring a balanced view to those spaces and to model that #stillwerise when everyday we do our best even if we’re not always charging forward. One of my favourite ever #iwillambassador interactions came with a 10 year old at a recent residential. I asked her what her ‘youth social action project’ was, she said -‘some days I work on ways of helping everyone be included and their mental health supported im school settings. But most days I just make sure I smile at everyone’. Finding a balance is exactly that isn’t it - some days we lead the fight and other days we just model kindness and inclusivity.
